iPad installed into dashboard?

post #1 of 5

ok se me and a mate are talking, im on the verge of buying a mini, and he already has one. (not the bmw one an austin one). annnnd i want the vannete version (for my bike and subs, speakers etc) but i wanted to install an iPad into the dashboard.

thinking about it, its a very viable option, as the ipad would run;
music, sat-nav, video, games, internet, and a friend codes apps, so could obviously code an app to work with sensers, that would show boost, temp, etc.

it seems viable, and all id need to do was hook up the ipad to a battery (for power) and then a 3.5mm to rca adapter into the amp. it all seems good...

what im asking you guys is, is there anything that ive missed, and anything you reckon i should take into account? (the ipad could be removable for security reasons)

It has actually been done just so you know in a truck, I am sure if you google "ipad truck" you will perhaps find a worklog of what the guy did and how he did it.

you should plug the iPad into some sort of a computer (kind of like the car's ECU?) that also provides power to the device. Or, how else would you send data to the iPad for the sensors? As well, is it going to be mounted on portrait or as a landscape?

theoretically, you would need to develop an app that can run two different monitors by separating the display portion into two parts.

The top part will display the stereo information, nav, dvd, etc and will not conflict with the vehicle features on the bottom part (air con, fan speed, heat, back up camera, etc).
