Upgrading memory on older laptop will it make much difference.

Thread Starter
So my sister has an old laptop with an Intel® Pentium® M Processor 725
(2M Cache, 1.60A GHz, 400 MHz FSB) CPU, 256mb of DDR2-533 PC2-3200 SODIMM RAM with an Intel i910GML/i915GM chipset.

Now i've just got 2x 1Gb of 533Mhz RAM (2Gb is the max the laptop will take) as she was complaining it was running slow even though she was only needing to do web browsing/Facebook on it.

Will adding the 2Gb of RAM really make much of an improvement to how this runs windows XP and the basic's like firefox considering that it's older and runs an older CPU...etc.

Cheers

When i seen the system specs from within XP i thought 256mb was weak and a potential cause for a slow computer. I knew upping to it's ram to the max 2gb would make a difference but wasn't sure just how much and whether it would greatly improve general moving around XP..etc consider the other specs.

Should be getting the laptop tomorrow so i can fit the RAM and hopefully see an immediate difference which will also mean i don't get told/annoyed all the time about how slow it is although now i'll be getting her going on about the slowness of desktop PC but i do have an old E2200 dual core system she can possibly get.

For reference, there aren't even any modern smartphones with 256mb of memory, the 2gb will be like installing a unicorn in your computer.

I can't tell if that's good, bad, or just weird.

It's so good it's like your trippin

Seriously RAM is cheap again at the present time so it can't hurt. Next up would be a faster hard drive, or just a format and fresh installation for that matter.
