Looking for a Quad 120 radiator to use with low-noise fans

Thread Starter
Hey guys, running a i7 930 with a 5870 and have a case built for a 480 rad so I wanted to know what my best option for a radiator is, given that I want it to be quiet as well. It doesn't need to be silent, as I'm obviously wanting to cool some serious stuff (adding another 5870 down the road), but I don't want it keeping me up at night or overbearing when I'm on it.

I've been impressed with the Noctua NF-P12s as they seem to be pretty quiet and push a good amount of air but I want a push/pull setup and buying 6 more of these fans is going to put a serious dent in things. I'm not married to these fans so if there are some quieter, better fans out there for the rad I'm looking for then I'll be happy to switch.

Thanks guys!

That rad is made for low noise/flow fans.

And, according to the link below you will want some 1450 rpm gentle typhoons. I have some, they are silent and push a ton of air.

The SR1 is a good option for low speed fans.

Lowest FPI: XSPC

Best Build Quality: Thermochill, then HWLabs

Just my opinion...

Thermochill PA120.4

-or-

XSPC RX480

You would need G3/8 to G1/4 adapters for the Thermochill though.

I have the XSPC RX480 and love it. It performs great and my undervolted Yate Loons are very quiet.

I have an RX480 as well as an RS240 and love both of them. I just spent the last week silencing my computer - and it's now unbelievably quiet (it's at outdoor traffic levels). I'm happy with both - and the RX480 is meant to be pretty good re restriction as well.

Repped everyone, thanks for the help so far.

I guess my main concern is silence, then performance. I have no intention of overclocking anything so I don't think I'll need to worry about super high temps, even with the i7 running.

With this in mind, what are some of the quieter fans out there that still push a lot of air? I think I'll probably go with the SR1 series in this case given my needs. What are some great fans, that are as quiet as can be, that will get me the most our of this radiator? Thanks!

Even with overclocking the system can remain silent at full load. Even with your CPU at 4.0 GHz and your GPU bumped up to 1000 core you could still use Gentle Typhoon 1150 RPM fans, which are VERY quiet.

If you aren't comfortable with overclocking I suggest you look up one of the MANY guides on how to hit 4.0 GHz on an i7. Finally, if you just want something simple and easy you can get the CPU to 3.5 GHz without effort. Simply up your BCLK to 167 from 133 and you will remain stable without having to adjust anything else (well might have to lower RAM multiplier to stay in RAM spec).

In any case, the best fans for your radiator are the GentleTyphoon 1150 RPM AP-13s. I would suggest you get the XSPC RX480 because while the SR-1 is very slightly better, the difference for your system will be less than 1C. The XSPC radiator is about $20 less and will actually perform better than the SR-1 with the fans I mentioned earlier.
