Q8200 new cooler, strange temps

Thread Starter
Hello everyone. I just finished installing a friend's PC in a new case and motherboard and a new cooler.
The Basic Specs are:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 @ Stock
Gigabyte EG41MF-S2H
Coolermaster Hyper 212+ (Push- Pull, one Xigmatek one Stock Coolermaster Fan @ 700-900 rpm each)
So, in the System Health Tab in the bios the temp is about 24c, but when i open coretemp, everest or any other program, it say 47-50c.
When running @ Full load it has ~65c.
What reading should i trust?

Trust the coretemp temps, they are right.

24C CPU temp in BIOS is almost impossibly low.

The software temp is more useful.

So, isn't 50c a bit too high?
The case is a Coolermaster Elite 370.
He had 50c @ idle with the crappy AVC Heatsink!

Your CPU is based on the Yorkfield-6M line. Yorkfield/Wolfdale were known to have borked idle sensors. So take that reading with a grain of salt.

Focus primarily on the distance to TJMAX.

There's a Q9450 in this machine. Everest shows 25-27C on the CPU, but all the cores are in their 40's.

However, this is right. 25C for this machine sounds about right. The Q8200 in it previous used to idle at 20C. Whereas in another machine (less efficient case) it used to idle around 30-40C (the Q9450)

Idle temps are mostly meaningless, as the temps are calculated from a sensor geared to trip PROCHOT at the CPU's TJmax. The further you get from TJmax the less likely the sensor is to be accurate.

65C full load looks about right, depending what program you are using to stress the system.

Oh, i understand. The reading from the bios is the same reading from everst which is always 10-15c lower than the cores. So, we have 50c. It seems a little high to me, but fortunately it won't bother the guy, he has no intention to overclock.

I've always gone by the CPU temp reading, though, not the core temp.

That's the sensor that is used with the thermal limits via the BIOS (when your PC shuts down because it's too hot). So if it's good enough for that, it's good enough for me.
