I'm interested in both.

Homebrew is good for some reasons. I'm not interested in piracy but it would be nice to have Linux on my PS3 and the ability to dump all of my games to the HDD if I wanted to.

However I'm not going to go out of my way to do this as I use my PS3 more than I use my PC nowadays and so the ability to update my games is essential and I need an authentic firmware version to do that.

I'm more interested in the piracy side of this. I'm waiting to see 1 of 2 things. Sony continually shutting down all attempts of piracy. Or, piracy becoming easily available for the end user without much of a hassle. Either will be interesting.

Sony will say all sorts of fud, but won't be able to do anything.

Not without new hardware.

Now, they could make it so you have to take your machine to get it updated to be able to play the latest games, but that would be a PR disaster.

Of course, Sony won't learn the lesson that removing the OtherOS function is what caused the peeps who know how to do this stuff, to get busy on it.

I want a PS3 now. It would be the perfect HTPC type setup. BD player, powerful computer, looks decent (compared to the others). Would be able to play emulators on it.

See, it's for the TV, and while modern games seem to think multiplayer means playing someone online, there's a bunch of great older systems games that are still fun for the family/friends.

As for piracy, who cares? Piracy has been around computer/video games from the get go. It doesn't cause much of a problem, I'd say, and I could be wrong: DRM causes more problems then piracy does. (DRM causes problems for the consumers who pay, and the companies waste money on it when they should be spending it on the game).

I play more homebrew on my consoles that I do video games, 'cept maybe my PS2. (still has some of the best RPG)

anyways, this doesn't mean anything for the normal consumer. Well, of course, Sony might now brick your consoles, but hey, blame it on the pirates.
