So how many people are going to kill their sandybridge cpus?

Thread Starter
I feel like a lot of people are going to kill their cpus with too much voltage. Not realizing that throwing the same volts at their 32nm chips as they did on 45nm, is probably a bad thing.

Idk what does everyone else think?

Thought I seen someone post on here that SB actually has a higher max VID, or something of the sort. 1.45v ish. I'll see if I can dig it up.

*Edit* 1.52v max http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...l#post11922647

according the white sheets, 1.52v
I'm actually interested in hearing about the maximum safe voltage as well. I know that on the 45nm Wolfdales and Yorkfields had 1.3625v as their maximum, while 45nm i7s had 1.4v.

EDIT: 1.52v? Holy crap!

Yeah idk seems very counter intuitive that as the dies shrinks that the max voltage would go up.

Refinements to the transistors perhaps? I would gather there is more to determining the max voltage then just the size of the transistors.

Maybe, but i feel like there is going to be a lot of guinea pigs for a bit. Who knows though.

Still trying to dig up some official Intel specs on sandy vid.

how in the world can you actually believe the max is 1.52v when it also says the min is 0.25v....

Sounds like the documentation was not edited or updated properly.

I wouldnt put more than 1.4 through one.

That was the max VID they would ship with. Max Intel rated voltage was 1.45v on 45nm chips.
