790FX is not a bad chipset, just a bit older and there are often better choices for the price (i.e. 890GX) for running an x6.

well, what are opinions of the ASUS Crosshair IV Formula? Good or bad? is the 850FX better than it's GX counterpart?

No, its not, I still have a 790FX mobo(Crosshair III) and 1090 combo.
What I noticed, compared to Crosshair IV(890FX),... will not allow your 1090 to run @ "full speed". Max. CPU/NB & RAM clocks are lower. This is not really an issue, you might hit nice clocks on it.

so what do you guys think, is this the best OC i will be able to get from what i have? as i said earlier the only RAM that can be OC'd is 1600 DDR3. that being said, i am pretty sure that adjusting the FSB at all is a no-go. just my brain talking, but since my brain is uneducated in this field, i could be wrong.

if this is the case, i guess a new MoBo and Ram pack is in order. too bad....it's gonna take me some time to get the new stuff...saving money is a pain.
