Quite frankly, the H50 / H70 stepped in right about the time coolers went from large (TRUE) to ridiculous (Silver Arrow, Archon and basically every other 80$ air cooler option). Newer air cooler options are coming with enormous 140mm fan options, twin towers and weigh, oh I don't know... a LOT. Many cases simply don't have the room for them...

Okay, granted, I'm an advocate of the H70. I upgraded mine with 38mm Uk2k fans and have been really impressed by it... And the beauty of it is when I look into my case through the nice window side panel I can actually see something other than an enormous block of metal and heatpipes and fans- like the work I put into stashing wires and cleaning up the build. the H70 Rad and fans tuck onto the back of the case where you can barely see it (admittedly the 38mm fans make it stick out more). It doesn't encroach on the RAM, even with heat spreaders... no matter how many sticks I use. That IS a benefit- if everything else is equal...

But back to the original post I can say that even a few years ago the V8 wasn't really blowing anyone's hair back and while I can't say for certain that a person couldn't put enough mods into any modern cooler (ie: fan upgrades) to make it competitive with any other... I CAN say for certain that even a hamster in a fur coat would do a better job cooling your 950 than a V8.
