Watercooling with 2x res/rad/pumps

Hi all,

I just found my brothers old computer and wish to reassemble it. It has 2x rads/pumps/res which has me confused as to a loop setup. Before you mention it- I've looked around the noob guides (fitting for my water-cooling experience) but to no avail.

http://www.overclock.net/water-cooli...asic-loop.html - This helped me a lot in terms of getting to grips with the rig. My brother was telling me the pumps may be broken and will not work in unpressurised environments for testing purposes, but before I can check them I am uncertain of the correct loop layout.

I suspect it went:

cpu waterblock-in to pump1
pump1 to res1
res1 to rad1
rad1 to gpu waterblock-in
gpu-out to pump2
pump2 to res2
res2 to rad2
rad2 to cpu-out

but I'm not 100%.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

More likely it was two separate loops. One for CPU, one for gpu.

You will
Always want the res right before the pump and preferably want the pump gravity fed by the res, ie the res physically above the pump. The order of rads and blocks doesn't really matter at all. Run a single loop if u can. Overall better temps when gaming or folding, just not when at system tdp

Thanks a lot peeps- I've just set up the loop now and by manipulating the position of one of the pumps I've gotten it to start pumping water- not so lucky with the other but it seems to be quite fiddly like that.

Is it just a simple case of tinkering with the loop positions or do you recommend I cut some precise hose lengths to substitute this old, algae-infested stuff? (Still haven't seen the other pump move though it does make noise so I imagine it's just a simple case of guessing placements?)

Make sure all the blocks and pumps are opened up and cleaned, get new tubing. Test each pump by itself. If one isn't running then you should really get rid of it and make it one loop with both rads and one res.

I think it's a case of doing the plumbing efficiently to start pumping water round the system using both pumps rather than it being a case of a pump being faulty- I'm just at a loss as to how to efficiently set the looping up. All it took for one of the pumps to work was to lower it to my desk level, now that's not exactly ideal but it's a start!

I wanted to know if maneuvering like this was normal to get the water running round the loop.

No, this is not normal. You will very likely get better temperatures with only one pump. The extra flow that two pumps provide generally do not offset their heat dump.

True, even in mine it's not worth having a 2nd pump fir the single loop and there is tons of restriction from blocks
