For folding, you could fold using the 9800GT if you got the 5770, that way you wouldn't get any slowdowns because your primary card would be untouched. If you were playing a game without PhysX, you could fold in the background without disrupting gameplay.

With two 9800s you could use them both to fold simultaneously when not gaming, but you'd have to stop them both when playing a game.

For a single card, driving one display, the 5770 will do nicely, although at that resolution it may not be able to max out alot of games. However it will perform better than a single 9800gt in just about everything, in DX11 and DX10. With the 9800gt used as a physx card, in any game that will support phsyx, you will be doubling your framerates, potentially.

I would say go with the 5770 9800gt combo, as you will get decent performance, lower heat and power consumption, less noise, as well as DX11 support. If you can afford it, i would say get an HD6870 as it has better tesselation, and better overall performance compared to the 5770, although it will be more expensive.

@Mattb2e i think i might do tht.

i ran 3dmark06 for the 9800GTs in SLi and just the single 5770 without Physx because it takes a while to get the 5770 nd 9800 for physX

so roughly 1200 points more with the sli'd 9800gts. The 5770 performs better than I thought in 3Dmark06. The 9800gt in physx should add a bit more points to your score.

yea i might try that out....btw its weird because i ran both the 5770 nd 9800GTs in Cod4...in multi the frames max out at 91 on both cards(thats the max for multi anyway) when i join a sever(i did this on both of the card setups) inside the map broadcast it maxses out 91 on both but when i go outside the 5770 gest roughly 15-20 frames more than the 9800s....then when i go on a different map its the opposite depending on what map i play...i guess the cards work there best on different areas on the game.....

Thats more likely related to the server your playing on, and the amount of people on it.
