ATi 5770 and NVIDIA 9800GT - Page 3

Well folding the nvidia gpu will destroy the 5770 (I have a 8800 gts g92 + g80 + 5770 spread across 2 systems)

5770 = 2500 ppd MAX
8800 gts g92 = 5500 to 6500 ppd based on work unit
8800 gts g80 = 4000 to 4600 ppd based on wu

However I have never had SLI, but the above posted 5770 3DMark06 are EXTREMELY LOW, mine gets 16,203 with only a Q6600

a single strong gpu is always better than SLI or Crossfire in my opinion.

Your missing the point however. The OP is only interested in what setup would offer him the most raw GPU performance in a gaming environment. Neither of the two options were a single GPU solution, and neither of them involved folding. He expressed an interest in folding, but thats not what his main concern is.

The HD5770 + the 9800gt in phsyx is going to give him the best overall results.

If he were folding solely, Cravin, I agree with you 100%, the 9800gt's in SLI would perform a ton better than the 5770.

Joz, I agree with you as well, and thats why I suggested that he choose the 5770 if he were to go with a single card solution at any point.

Thread Starter
I tried to set up the 5770 with the 9800GT but i think i ****ed because when i ran 3dmark06 my score was about 9300:( i went back to the SLi setup. i read a thread on here on how to do it but i think i did it wrong. ive tried twice anyone kno how to do it. i have all the updated drivers for both cards and the older ones if i need to use those.

Thanks for all your help guys!

I just answered his question regarding folding and provided my input on the 5770 3DMark score

If the question si purely which is better in gaming of the options presented

The SLI 9800 GT will perform better in games. As mentioned previously they are fster than a gtx 260/280, and a 5770 is slower than a 260

This review says otherwise, and that was at the infancy of the drivers that were released for the HD5xxx series cards. In most titles the HD5770 is either beyond that of a GTX260, or within a couple frames of it. If 9800gt's truly perform the same as a GTX260, than based on the review I linked a single HD5770 will perform similarly.

I'll run my 5770 in this system with catalyst 10.12

But here was my 8800 gts 512 in the same system at the same OC:
