6870 crossfire worth it?

Thread Starter
Just bought 6870 about month ago and loving it. I want another.... another beauty.. The performance should be good with 2x 6870's. But is CF worth it? Does it bring lot of issues like micro strutter and that? Does my 965BE stock bottleneck them? I need to change my PSU as then too.

I would buy Corsair HX650W for 130$ and other XFX 6870 for 280$. And sell my VX550W for ~60$.

What do you think about? CF worth it?

I think they are worth it. Im either going to get 2x6850's or 2x6870's. 2 in CF will outperform any other single card out there.

I personally looking at the MSI Twin Frozr II versions as they are a lot quieter. Just made it to a couple of places in NZ yesterday so hopefully my preferred vendor can get them real soon.

But does CF bring lot of issues too like stutter and that? I am afraid of them. I will buy another reference XFX because the card I now have is it. If i go CF

Okay! I should ask other 6870 CF users how's games been working like BC2 which I play the most.. But does 965BE bottleneck two 6870? I run it stock because BC2 don't like any OC. If needed, I can run it 3,8GHz without a problem but then I cannot play BC2.

I think your CPU would be fine for BC2.

I get 90-115fps with all setting maxed, including AA and AF. Lowest Ive seen so far is 40 fps. (Ive only played BC2 for 3 or 4 hours)

I get the same stats on Black Ops, but my min is ~55-60 fps.

hey, just one think. A friend of mine had 2 6870 with the same Phenom II proc, and he had some issues with CF with that CPU. He was getting poor performance out of the CF, when i put his cards in my rig (i5 760 3,4 that time), seems like the cards took a fresh breathe of air, i was getting 20-40FPS more. So try first.

I ran 58xx cf without any issues. I think you would need to consider a PSU upgrade for 2 though. The driver issue is WAY overblown. Probably mosts people problems are too far OC'ed or other hardware issues. I would do CF again.

I am not sure on your CPU though. With everyone upgrading to SB you might look for a good deal on a MOBO and CPU upgrade.

You've got a good heatsink, OC your CPU a little and crossfire IMO. 3.8GHz shouldn't be a hassle.
