i5 750 @ 4ghz with 8gb ram

Thread Starter
Hey I was recently stable on 4ghz with 1.38 vcore

20x200mhz
1.64 dram
auto PLL
1.24 QPI/VTT
Auto LLC
Ctates disabled
Turbo disable

But can't get stable with 8gb instead of 4.

Everytime I boot my bios tells me before windows starts that there was a boot failure.

please help meh smile.gif

Will I need a higher PLL?

*EDIT*
Also 1.38vcore looks a bit high compared to others. Even though when I bench with IBT it onl ever shows 1.34 in cpuz

Are you sure all the RAM is stable? Try different sticks and see if it works.

Don't touch the PLL... you need more QPI/VTT voltage. On the 1366 CPUs the Intel recommended limit is 1.35v and I would say around 1.4v is safe, not sure about on 1156. More memory sticks stresses the memory controller more, and QPI/VTT voltage is essentially the memory controller voltage on the CPU itself.

i've tried 1.28 vtt but that didn't survive either. I'll try some more.
Yes I was told more ram stresses more.
I've done ibt with teh new ram installed and it was completely stable.

Should I do a mem test?

Mem test for 11 hours and no errors what so ever so i'm pretty sure the ram is fine.

I better start testing more voltages then.

I swapped out my old ram and ran the OC with just the new 4gb and it was fine even though I got a random memory dump BSOD on first startup but 5 runs of IBT on high was stable. I'm going to restart it a few times and see if I get the same BSOD

Bump rolleyes.gif
I reset bios to default and pc boots fine.

I've tried upping the vtt to as high as 1.34v and still comes up in bios before boot
"The system has experienced boot failures becuase fo overclocking or changes of voltages"

There must be something i'm doing wrong or can people not get stable 4ghz with 8gb?

I'm quite sure the ram is fine.
I've run memtest for 11 hours on no OC.
Booted into windows with the OC with just 4gb with both sets of sticks.
Booted fine with sticks in singles.

Been testing with speeds less than 4ghz.
I have it stable at 3.8ghz with 1.34vcore and 1.26vtt.

20x190
and with a dimm multiplier of 8.0 so it's 1520mhz ram but i'd like to try and reach 4ghz so I can have my ram at rated spec which is 1600mhz.

I've tried vtt all the way up to 1.36v but still boot failure.

5 runs of ibt was stable but when I booted I could see alot of artifacts even though my gpu isn't OC'ed.

Come on guys, must be some people that can help

I am currently overclocking my i5 750 as well...however I cant hit 4.0GHz without hitting 1,4vc. I am too running 8gb 1600MHz and almost identical MB, mine is P55A-UD3.

Testing 3,8GHz instead with similar spec as yours but with 19x200, giving me optimum speed on ram modules 1600MHz.
