SFF Power Supply Help

Thread Starter
I've recently read that an ATX psu in the Lian Li Pc-Q11 case is too large, and hurts cooling performance as well as a chance of adding a heatsink like the Shuriken. So I've decided to purchase an mATX psu or SFX psu. Would any of these psu be compatible with the case since it uses ATX psus? This psu in particular has an add-on bracket for ATX, but it's only a 450W and I need to power a 6850 and i5 650. On the other hand this mATX psu is 550W, but I have no idea if it would be compatible with the case. Any ideas? And if I did go with the mATX would there be enough clearance for a shuriken. Thanks in advance. Sorry for the bad grammar, I'm in a hurry.

If the power supply bay is at the top of the case just set the unit on top of your case and run the cables through the power supply opening. I don't know much about ATX, for all of my cases are microATX, but I am sure a small psu will fit in a large case.

You may want to look around for other people's Q11 builds to see what they're using for HSFs.

The Silverstone 450W actually has more +12v than the Athenatech 550W, at 36A versus around 33A. Thus, the Silverstone would be better for your build.

I'd imagine the Scythe Shuriken HSFs to be able to fit w/o problems even with a normal sized PSU. Note that the adapter bracket for the SFX PSUs that you linked to will hold the PSU in the middle of the space, so you really only get another 1cm or so of clearance.

See this thread where someone mentions enough clearance for even the Big Shuriken. Your REAL problem will be getting that monster to fit your motherboard without hitting your graphics card or the optical drive.
