Rooting Droid 2

Thread Starter
So, I've been a little interested in rooting my droid 2. I have a few questions.

What are the differences between roms? Can I get applications that I would usually have to pay for, for free? Which is the best rom and why? What are some of the best apps available? How do I check which version of droid software I'm running? What are the differences in droid software versions?

Well you have many options, there are all the android OS's including the new gingerbread. However there are independent mods like cyanogenmod . This is the one I use, its based on 2.2 froyo, and offers a shed load of customisable features aswell as all of the perks you get from rooting.

1. different roms will have different modifications to the OS, such as asthetical mods and the like. I suggesst you try running a few at the start then choose between one of them.
2. Depends, some devs offer their paid software for free to rom devs, otherwise you will have to pay for them (although there is a way to get them without paying, I'm not going to delve into it).
3. As above, try a few and decide for yourself. Different people will like different roms.
4. Not sure since I'm rocking a desire, not a droid 2 but there should be info on it in the guides for rooting.
5. Wouldn't have a clue, google is your best friend if nobody knows.

However, there are several other stable ROMs available; check droidlife and droid forums.

Yeah I looked around and found some interesting ones. I dunno if it's worth it though.
