Are there any free video editors?

i just want to do some video editing, dont really need anything super powerful, just basic home editing.

all i wanna do actually is import my video from my minidv camcorder, and have options of how i can burn it on a dvd.

i tried windows dvd maker, but it only records in sp dvd i think, which is 2 hours of video per disk, but i'd want hq dvd or whatever its called, that records only one hour per disk, but has better quality.

also, do all dvd's play back at the same fps? what is the fps? 24? 25? when i tried burning dvds of the footage of my minidv camera, the video looked like it had low fps, and there was no deinterlacing when i played the dvd back on tv so it didnt look pleasant to look at... this is really annoying! i want my video to looke like it does on dvd movies that i buy at the store.. smooth!

in my movie maker there is an option to save in high definition in the save as menu, it shows as 1920x1080 and the Fps rate is 29.97, in which then it creates a movie file then i use windows dvd maker to durn it to disc im sure that still means that its in High Quality since dvd maker does not have any video settings to change, it simply burns whatever the file is, maybe im wrong...
