Replacing a cheap headset - lil question

Thread Starter
Hi all,

So I'm in the process of replacing my headset because it's died on me (the left cup or whatever you call it doesn't work) but I'm not too sure if I'll need a decent soundcard as well; can something like a sennheiser HD555 or even a PC350 produce quality sound through my mobo's onboard chip? Or is it simply "plug and play" without the need for installing anything else?

Thanks in advance

best budget gaming headset. equip it with a mic

The new hd555 are good and doesn't require an amp to get decent treble and mids, but your onboard sound will not be able to produce those accurate frequency most audiophiles are after. Thus people by sound card amps and better headphones.

You can get a hd555 and just use onboard sound, but most will say it is a waste due to the onboard driver will not be able to produce crisp and clean sound like a soundcard will, but it will work but just no to its full potential.

as far as PC350 i have no clue. I would have to assume the same. Soundcard + amp is the way to go when you are buying higher tier headphones.

Or go Optical to Receiver. none the less with good headphones will neeed a good souncard or amp to really make them shine.

The impedance on the PC350s is 150 Ohms. You're going to need an amp. They will work without one, but the sound quality will be very much diminished.

Would an Asus Xonar D1 be powerful enough for the PC350? Or should I ought to invest in something bigger?

I don't believe the Xonar D1 comes with a built in amp.
