6850 alone or 6850 crossfire?? - Page 2

I recently bought 2 6870s, they are awesome and scale well. I can imagine the 6850s won't be too far behind, benchmarks show them only a little bit lower than the 6870s and if you oc them a little bit you might even get mostly there. If you can, go with two of them (or you can buy one 6970 and look for another one down the road).

I agree with all the 6xxx owners. These are great cards (coming from a previous nvidia dude, now ATI all the way) and have recently had pretty dang good price drops, near $100!

I have 2 HIS 6850s in crossfire and love it! Overclocked to 875hmz core on stock voltage and 1110mhz mem. Raises my bandwidth to 142.1Gb/s.
Though one card is 36 C in idle, the other top card is closer to 46 C. To be expected I suppose, though I have tons of airflow.

One card is great, but if you have the airflow and PSu and such for 2, GO FOR IT!

From my experience, two 6850s scale well, but with only 1GB VRAM, pretty much any performance gained is negated by annoying stutter. As someone who has first hand experience with these cards, I definitely do not recommend a dual 6850 setup.

Don't get a second one without more vram, the stutter is too much of a pain to justify it.

If you can afford two HD6850s..... get an HD7850 instead.

less driver headaches, less power consumption, for similar performance
