Making my OWN tech bench

Thread Starter
Well I was looking at tech benches online and DAMN is it expensive. SO I figured why not kind make my own?
To do this I am going to use this case, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119195

And what i'm going to do is unrivet the top, bottom, sides, and HHD/ODD tray.

Then from there i'll experiment and ask for suggestions. I will post pictures tomorrow along with an actual plan I guess.

Thanks for looking.

Also using a mobo tray as a tech bench works perfectly fine, right?

Sigh, don't double post that just makes you look like an uber b00n. I suppose you can use that post later for your logs or something.

Personally I'd just buy the cheapest case I could find and shred it down. Brand doesn't matter cause you won't see it.

Not too long ago a fella had a similar tech station up for sale at XS. Maybe there will be some ideas that you will find worthwhile.

I'll see if I can't hunt it down, because he linked his build thread. It was functional and had an interesting twist...the mobo tray was on top (actually, what would have been the "window" side, as he had it laying flat on the other side) and it hinged up, to allow access to the drives and PSU, which were underneath.

Sounds interesting, but not as fun as making one on your own.

Well, he did make his own...just like you he started with a case (actually two of them) and went from there. I don't mean in any way that you should copy his, just that there may be an idea or two worth incorporating, or perhaps even some mistakes that you would want to avoid, that's all.

Anyways, here is the link.

Good luck with your project. I've always had a fondness for the open tech station and to date my favorite is the Dimastech (as for beauty in it's simplicity and functionality) and the Banchero 101 for looks.

I'll have to drop back in on your build and see how it progresses.
