Level scaling just doesn't feel right in a game like TES. It does wonders in games like Borderlands or Diablo though.

edit: the reason people mention difficulty isn't what you think it is (ie tougher monsters). No level scaling means when you enter ruins, you don't know whether you're going to encounter lvl 20 monsters or just rats. Or if you're going to find a few coins or the best light armor of the game in a cupboard in some old wizard's house.
yes but the point is you and 99.9% of people currently on planet earth have no idea what the level scaling in Skyrim will be like so what's the point in complaining about something you have little to no facts about?

Everyone seems to have become game mechanic experts and pundits lol..

It could be a great game with level scaling. To clarify my previous post, it's level scaling like the one implemented in Oblivion that just doesn't feel right.

There's a balance between level scaling and 'fixed content' to be found that will appeal to both crowds.

Since people are asking, wanted to briefly touch on level scaling. All our games have had some amount of randomness/levelling based on player level. Skyrim's is similar to Fallout 3's, not Oblivion's.
Now quit yer whining and let us all bask in the awesomeness that will be TES V

I'm digging all of except that the game takes place 200 years after Oblivion.

Fallout 3's leveling was miles better than Oblivion's in my experience. But I only played it once (for other reasons) so maybe I only saw the good side of it.

Not having level scaling doesn't work well for a game as open as TES has become. You need the freedom to do almost any quest starting from whatever level you are when you find it. And I don't know about you guys but I don't want to have to go hunting for caves that are good for my level, and aren't too hard or easy.

IMO the problem with oblivion was how you had to go through great lengths to use your lesser skills BEFORE you used the major ones, otherwise your level would be screwed. The scaling itself was a great feature that made the game good.

It worked well enough for Morrowind, which is barely smaller than Oblivion.
And Morrowind has way more quests than Oblivion.

It is very realistic, though. And there are mods that slow down your leveling. Some of the most popular ones there. So you can't say people don't want that. Otherwise how would they be so popular?

I think more people want an immersive world where the main quest ISN'T the main appeal of the game. I mean that is one of the last things you ever hear about in any of Bethesda's games when you talk about enduring appeal. Its the wide open world with possibilities you have to earn your way through. About the only thing I'd want is a way to mark an area that you will come back to later because you are too low of a level right now.
