Ya know I guess this isn't for or against the game but I do have to say one thing:

No developer of a game has ever had the feedback that The Elder Scrolls fans give. If there is a problem with the game the modding community takes care of it. All they have to do is sit down and look at the most popular mods for their game and realize where something needs to be changed to make it better. In my opinion it simply does NOT get better than that. Nor easier to figure out. I'm not saying they have easy jobs nor am I bashing them. I'm just saying that if they want to make this game better than Oblivion just look at the most common downloaded mods and you have it right there.

I guess that's why the idea of leveled areas/creatures turns me off. They are some of the top downloaded Oblivion mods. I like what they have done with the idea of moving a quest to a different area if you haven't explored it (though I'm not sure if it is based on exploration or killing a number of creatures in that area or getting an item from there or whatever), but that forces them to level creatures and areas based on what you have done or not done. And people LIKE the feeling of crushing a certain type of monster/bad guy because you are just mightier and have earned that power and right over your opponent. It is its own reward. And it is cool to have an area you have to build up to to fight and get the loot.

Ultimately the devs have to make a hard choice based on the three aspects of going through a game like this:

Main Quests
Side Quests
Exploration (with/without quests but things to be done and found)

And then how to incorporate them together. Me personally I'm fine with a setup where I have to do a decent amount of Side Quests and Exploration to get the levels/power to do the Main Quest. And I think that the best weapons should be from off hand Exploration and Crafting not related to the core of the game. As well in this I realize that with my "setup" of the game, if a person did enough Side Quests and Exploring before the majority of the Main Quests they wouldn't have a problem beating the game. Why? Because they are practically a God at that point. And that is realistic.

Otherwise you have to make a challenge for these people as well. And the only way to do that with fixed areas/creatures is to make it so that you need to do everything in the game first in order to complete the Main Quest. And not everyone is gonna like running around all day like that.

They chose the third route though. And with leveled stuff they didn't do a good job in Oblivion. I hope they learned some lessons is all. On a final note I can't friggin WAIT for this game!!!

Sorry but level scaling absolutely DESTROYS this game for me. I have absolutely zero interest in it. At least in paying for it.

Maybe months after release when some mods come out that completely remove level scaling I'll consider a purchase. Honestly though with the way they are doing the quests it might make it near to impossible for mods to remove it entirely.

Can't say I've been following ES since the start but I have since Morrowind was released. That game spoiled me and was simply amazing. It's imo still the best sand box rpg to this day. I was absolutely blown away when someone showed me the amazing piece of armor you could get from swimming to the cave at the start of the game. The fact that it was possible was such a "new" concept to me from all the other games I had played where everything was scaled to my level.

For me there is no going back. ES is NOT ES with level scaling. Sorry, it's just not.

Unfortunately, this is going to be another game where you can beat it at level 5.

Quote:
Level-scaling makes a return. Meaning: “The game eventually logs a huge storehouse of knowledge about how you’ve played, and subsequently tailors content to your capabilities and experiences. Entering a city, a young woman might approach you and beg you to save her daughter from kidnappers. The game will look at the nearby dungeons you’ve explored, automatically set the mission in a place you’ve never visited, and designate opponents that are appropriately matched to your strengths and weaknesses.â€

I was ok with the graphics....though in towns with fog, the draw distance just sucks.

I dont see why people are complaining about the level up scaling. I mean, I know its a pain because only certain monsters appear depending on levels, but if you are saying that you dont like it because it makes the game easy, or so, theres a thing called the difficulty slider.....I normally place it somewhere between normal and hard.

Considering how little info we have about the game currently, I think people are judging just a little too harshly. We all know the level-scaling made Oblivion a tad ridiculous, since well... you never felt stronger. Having said that, I'm fairly certain Bethesda is AWARE of the number 1 complaint for their previous game, and won't try putting out the same crap this time around. Come on, The Elder Scrolls is the biggest and most popular single-player RPG of our time; why would they make the same stupid mistake that KILLED their last game for many people? I just don't see it.

Personally, I think they're on to something more in-depth and useful with this revised scaling system. The idea in Skyrim is that the game learns who you are, not copies you in every respect---like in Oblivion.

So to the people crying about the return of the scaling system; how about you just wait it out? This is the FIRST we're hearing of a game due a YEAR from now, and that's without the pushbacks that are inevitable with a game of this magnitude. I feel like it's just pure ignorance... I mean come on guys, we don't know a damn thing about this game yet. :/
