6950 Xfire Eyefinity help :(

Thread Starter
I just installed my two 6950s and I have them crossfired (didn't know at first you had to use both crossfire connectors to each). I can get two monitors running, these two are hooked up to my Gigabyte 6950, but I can't get the third monitor running from the Sapphire 6950. I used the cd from Gigabyte to install CCC and whatever else came with it but I think it is running an old driver version (looks like 10.11?). I've tried to install the 10.12 driver. I was told to do 10.12a somewhere in a post, but I don't know where to get that unless the 10.12 Preview is this? I r depressed slightly so help cheer me up and get my eyefinity running

Edit: When I have tried to install the 10.12 driver, I get the third monitor to flash a display for a few seconds and then goes back to black once the install finishes.

Excerpts from....

Alright, enough chatter, what do I need to get one of these setups up and running in multi-screen glory?! (the italics are what's important)

Eyefinity begins at 3 displays; and, all 3 have to run at the same res and have the same aspect ratio and orientation. You can pair a couple 24" 1920x1200s with a 30" running at the same res, but you can't pair two 20" 4:3s in portrait with a 24" widescreen in landscape.

Another hurdle: at least one monitor has to be plugged into Displayport.

First, you only need one CF bridge. Maybe the second one adds some tiny performance boost in some games, but it's largely irrelevant.

Second, AFAIK, you need to hook up all your displays to the primary card.

Third, you can get the 10.12a hotfix driver here:

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles...12ahotfix.aspx

Fourth, hook me up with the + rep.

So I can't have my monitors connected with all DVI? I can't run multiple monitors off different cards? Doesn't seem to make sense if you can do 6 monitor Eyefinity. Also, all my monitors are the same brand/make at 22" so I don't see where my conflict is other than maybe a driver issue?

Edit: looks like I do need a display port from everyones postings...ugh more stuff to buy

nope, when running crossfire they all have to be connected to 1 card only

Edit: i believe you need an ACTIVE display port, yes more money, never easy is it

From a 6950, use the two DVI outputs and the mini-DP output.
Your Sapphire 6950 should come with a ''mini-DP to DP'' converter. Use it in conjunction with the following ''DP-to-DVI'' converter (an active single link converter) and a DVI cable to connect to one of the 3 Acer monitors.

Link:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...0single%20link

US$27 is not too bad.

ah..alright I guess I had the wrong impression on Eyefinity lol., I think Sapphire included a cable but I don't know what it is. Also, I need an active displayport it looks like, is this what I would need to get? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-014-_-Product

Edit: I guess the cable I got was the mini-DP to DP converter. Can I buy the adapter at a store like Best Buy (eek overpriced?), if not I will order that DP-DVI tonight then.

Thanks for the help everyone

Yes, the one in the link above will work, according to AMD's approved list below. And it is an active dual link converter. However, as I suppose your 23'' Acers are 1920x1080/1200, you do not need dual link which supports up to 2560x1600. So, you might want to save some money to buy an active single link converter.

If you wish to bypass the Sapphire converter (which I pointed out in my post above), try this Accell active single link converter (B087B-006B) which converts from mini-DP directly to DVI. It is also approved by AMD as well.

I'm running at 1680x1050. So if I go with the one with the usb connection I wouldn't need the mini-DP to DP cable? but if I use the cable then I can just get one of the actives with DP to DVI?
