Got my Super Talent RAM! - Page 3

My Mushkins (all my dual or triple channel memory) came in a 3 pack so they're factory tested equal performers. Usually single channel sticks are sold separately.
BTW, how much did you pay for them? When I got my Mushkins for $140 I looked at some good Super Talents for over $300. I figured I could tighten these Mushkins and save $150. I'm hoping for 6-8-6-20 @1600 maybe 1700. i'd rather keep them tight then get higher speeds. 1600 (maybe 1700) is fast enough for a i7 960.

Here's a triple channel kit of 2000 @7-7-7-20 for $299. The 2100 is a single stick, not sure if it's single, dual or triple channel??? @8-8-8-21 for $100 and recommended for a i5 and i7 1156 MB, no mention of the 1366 MB.

No. They are minimum performers, not equal performers. They are guaranteed to do at least the rated specs. So redhat goes through 10 sticks to find the best performing two to run.

Same goes for CPUs. When you buy an i7 930 it is guaranteed to run 2.8GHz. But some overclock way better than others.

Actually minimum and equal. They test them (Corsair anyway) as they come off the assembly line and throw the matching sticks in their matching bins (like CPUs) to be packaged together later. Either in dual or triple packs. Single packaged sticks will be all different, so you'll end up with 2 or 3 different performing sticks (not equal unless you luckily get 2 equal sticks that match, or at least come close) if you buy them singly. They always advise to buy in pairs or triple packs.

Each stick will clock differently no matter how you purchase it. Binning is expensive and time consuming.

My sticks did not come in triple packs. They were 219.99. I will let you know hoe they oc. Everything is different for everything. Its just luck of the draw. A buddy of mine goes through sticks like every two months. He said theres no guarantee with triple channel packed together or single. Hes had both and mixed performance. But I am looking for higher clocks with good stability tho. Not just ocing the crap out of them to see how far i can go.

I agree with bassplayer. I could rarely see a company have special people in manufacturing plants looking for three sticks that match and sayin Eureka!. That would be very time consuming and for that cost theyed have to sell those sticks for 500 bucks. Imagine how much money they spent paying that guy! LOL

That's why the GTX2's were $250 a stick. They were the best of the best and were as tightly bonner as possible.

Intel also advises you to not overclock.

it's pointless to buy in pairs unless you get them for a better price. They don't bin ram for a long time, they just test for minimum specs and put sticks together.

You must think that you have to buy a "dual channel" set for dual channel and "triple channel" set for X58 boards, right?

^^

I guarantee you it is minimum, not equal. Minimum isn't the same as equal and you contradicted yourself.
