Not detecting second monitor??

Thread Starter
So, I just built my new computer, and for some reason, my 23" isn't being detected. My 22" is detected fine, and displays perfectly. I tried swapping their positions on the DVI ports, but my 22" is still the only one showing, which tells me it's not a hardware issue. Both monitors work fine, just as they should, on my old rig (sig rig). So, I'm relatively certain it's a software/driver issue at this point. Anything I might be missing in Catalyst? I'm using the latest drivers I could find with the updated UI "preview".

New rig:
Phenom II x6 1055t
8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600
Radeon HD 5870 1GB (reference)
128GB Kingston SSD
ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3

Everything else is working perfectly... Anyone got any ideas?

Edit: Also, if I leave it disconnected, it says "check signal cable" but if I leave it plugged it, it says "entering power saving mode" as if it's connected, just doesn't have anything to do. Dunno if that helps.

I know this might sound dumb but did you do "detect displays"? Is the monitor showing at all in device manager?

Yea, I tried it in both Catalyst and Win7's own screen manager. Nothing. Device manager says nothing. I'd fear a dead monitor, but it works on my old rig...

have you chose in catalyst what to do with the second monitor wether it should be extended or cloned etc, not sure if that should make a difference as i dont use 2 monitors....

Edit: nvm lol

Pop the monitor that works on the second dvi slot. Does both slots work for that monitor? Also if the monitor has a vga slot try dvi to vga and see if it works.

I've tried plugging it into both ports, but I'll try it again in a second. I was thinking about trying to use an HDMI cable instead (luckily the monitor accepts HDMI input). I'm going to try swapping them again, then try HDMI and VGA to see if either of those work.

edit: For clarification, the 22" works no matter which DVI port it's plugged into. The 23" doesn't work no matter which DVI port it's plugged into.

Another side thought while your testing. try booting with just the 23" monitor over dvi and then vga. If it wont work over dvi its prob not gunna work over hdmi since its the same thing basically (one has sound)

Hm, maybe there's a problem with my DVI cable. Using VGA with DVI adapter works. Now going to try swapping the two cables and see if that works. If so, I guess I need to get a new cable.
