The Philips Twin Eye would track properly on any possible surface except for Cloth, so I'd say avoid cloth mousepads as that would cause the sensor to freak out and give you malfunctions with tracking.

That said, why buy a hard mousepad when a smooth tabletop works just fine at wearing out the poorly designed teflon pads at the bottom of your RAT?

you also might want to check out the puretrak talent vs the steelseries pad. many people, including myself, prefer it over the qck cause of the size, feel, and durability. price is about the same too. biggest selling point though... MADE IN AMMMURRRIICA
