Constantly keep card OC'd? Or just for games, etc?

Leaving it OC'd all the time seems excessive if you're just say, browsing the web, but on the other hand I'm not sure if lowering/raising the voltage would be more stress on the card than leaving it OC'd. Thoughts?

To each their own I suppose, but I just have a profile in Afterburner that I apply before I start up a game.

It's not going to hurt your card if you keep it OC'ed all the time.
GPUs have 3 modes. When you play games, it goes to the 3d accel mode which is the profile that is OCed. (Unless you have a program that lets you OC the other 2).

So while you do nothing else, its on either 2d basic or 2d accel. So you can just keep it on i believe

Edit:
Rivatuner lets you change all 3 profiles. And i think all others like EVGA precision, afterburner just do the 3d accel mode because thats the only one that needs to be OCed

Just take a look at the Folders here, oc'd to the max running 100% 24/7

I just leave mine OC'ed! As long as its not running at suicide runs, is stable, and cool, then I see no need to worry. I have had my 8800GT running @702/1050 for almost 3 years now and it has never artifacted or overheated on me. Before I used it for Physx, it was my primary card that I thrashed and done some benching with as well.

EDIT: And yes, they do downclock in 2D mode as previously stated.

cool. Didn't know they down clock when you don't game. Does it show in GPUz? or does it only show your OC'd clock? which is what i see at all times.

but I saved both stock clock and oc'd clock under different profiles on AB, so when I'm not playing games I run the stock profile

They dont down clock if they are overclocked, they will stay at the oc'ed values.

Yea, it even downvolts I have noticed when monitoring. My gtx570 goes from 1.013 to 0.91 or something on load screens Remember, this is 2011 and they are trying hard not to waste energy all around the board now, not at least the gpu makers.

Fermi's will most definitely downvolt/downclock in 2d mode even when their 3d mode is OC'd. And a 5850 will too, I know because I used to own 2.
