Weird pci wlan adapter problem

Thread Starter
Hey guys!
I have this weird problem on my pci wifi card, as it only picks up a 12 mbps speed as to the 54mbps speed of the laptop im writing on. It has run at 54mbps happily for many months but now its only 12mbps for some reason. It basically cant even load web pages properly. The strength is weak, even though the laptop beside it(this one) has nearly full strength- this makes me think th card has something wrong with it.

So, any suggestions?

Thanks

check the Ariel on the back of the card hasn't worked loose. Make sure its seated properly, reinstall drivers. Other than that... meh.

If your running windows 7 just uninstall in device manager and reboot and w/7 will find and install it's own list of generic drivers.

Yeah, i did that and it still doesnt work... I think its something to do with the pci wifi adapter and the router, i can find the wifi signal but when i try to connect it says that it cannot connect to zyxel and i should reboot my router which i did several times. Could it be that the signal is too weak to connect to the wifi but strong enough to send the signal?

Yeah, I got the drivers from the zyxel website, now i can find my wireless network and connect to it, but it won't allow me to display any pages etc. With the zyxel utility it says the connection is fine, at 15% link quality(not good but it should connect), and windows says that it cant connect to the internet through it. It also skips from wireless b-g all the time even though I've forced it to G through the ip config thingy.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Will changing the wireless channels help the connection at all?

Hi there I just fixed my own wireless network issue that is somewhat related to yours.

If you have signal but cannot connect reliably check for signal interference. This is what happened with my network, I received signal fine but internet was dog slow despite my netbook running fine 1 foot away.

I found interference from my crappy speakers which had an atrocious amount of cable and from the subwoofer. Also I was using an DVI to HDMI adapter from my video card which could have also been an issue, but I think it was more the speakers.

Try removing any devices with lots of wires away from your system and test. A bad ground from the wall outlet can also create interference. Try a different outlet or power switch.

If Windows says the device is working and you can 'see' your network but have issues connecting, interference is probably the issue.
