Window 7 image dilemma

Thread Starter
I've just built a system for a friend. He is fairly non-technical and so he wants me to come up with a solution whereby in the event that his system crashes (or similar), he can do something simple to that will re-install Windows 7 plus all the basic drivers for his computer components and peripherals (He doesn't want to manually install all the drivers).

I was thinking of creating a system image via the Windows 7 utility but it came out to ~30GB. He doesn't want it stored on his hard drive so my only option would be DVD's... but that's a lot of DVD's :\\

I'm new this area of Windows and was wondering if anyone could offer some tips as to how I can efficiently accomplish the above said task.

Thanks!

lol... I meant if there are alternatives to system images for accomplishing the task or if there's a more efficient way to create system images.

But thanks

I would clone the drive using something like Acronis instead. (but you would still be dealing with a size issue) But for me it is a better workaround because I just grab a spare hard drive, clone to that drive and then label it and shove it in the closet! This is what I do for my wife's and father in law's pc's - since any catastrophic event to their computer is like the world falling apart. So when the computer acts weird I can do a 2 minute swap of the hard drive and keep chugging along with minimal problems.

blu ray? errrrm why dont you just set a partition liek they do on OEM pc's like if you set a recovery partition, you remove the need to use discs, annnnd its easy to reach, it can be put into a F11 set.

if you create a system image splitted into several dvds, one disk fail and the full image goes useless...tell your friend that. A secondary hard disk or an external one is the way to go.

Regarding placing the image in a partition on the primary HDD (the one that holds the OS): If something happens to the system (ie. virus, corruption, etc.), wouldn't the image in the partition also be equally affected and/or compromised?

* I only have one HDD to work with.
