Thread Starter
Hey OC, ive been looking and looking and looking and cant decide on a GPU

i was looking at the Sapphire HD6850 but heard they run hot.

my current board the card is going into is a
ASUS M4A785-M

and i currently have a full tower case (CM Storm Sniper)

and i have a 620W seasonic PSU

im looking for a GPU that can crossfire / sli on a diffrent board as well work with my new board and work with my PSU

is this a good card?
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16814130591

price max: 200$ - can go 250 but would have to be for a super good GPU befor taxes/shipping

www.newegg.ca please.

The 6850 and 5850 are fairly similar, one shouldn't run hotter than the other, and the 6850 is cheaper.

Don't get the GTX460 SE 1GB...its slightly better than the 5770. The 6850 is a great card. I love mine.

The Radeon 6850 and the GTX 460 1GB are what you should be looking at. The 6850s run very cool. Your case is pretty airflow centered, so temperatures shouldn't be a problem. The GTX 460 you are looking at is a SE edition. DO NOT buy those, as they have about 60 disabled cores.

As for Crossfire/SLI, your motherboard only supports Crossfire but you can always do the SLI hack (documented on this forum). I'm guessing you have the M12II/S12II as your PSU, so a dual-card config is ok.

Personally, I would buy a non-reference GTX 460 (EVGA, MSI, GIgabyte, ASUS, Zotac) and overclock your card. Cheers.

Hey,
If you can spend up to 250$, then a gtx 470 is your best choice (see link). But since it is an nvidia card and that most amd mobos these days use an amd chipset, you will have to do the sli hack if you want to be able to sli. To do so, please refer to this thread: http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/6708...rd-gtx5xx.html
Here's the link to the card:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...-550-_-Product
Also, the gtx 460se is not a good choice. The 768mb version of the gtx 460 beats the ''se'' version as the ''se'' version was designed mostly for low demanding processing but on large monitors (mainly HTPCs), which explains the 1gb of memory. So, don't get that card if you're gaming.
But wait!! I would certainly wait until January 20th (other sources say 25th) to see how the gtx 560 performs as it is launched... It is supposed to be priced around 200$...
Good luck

to be honest i would wait for the gtx 560's, more info have been leaked about them on kitguru and there said to be announced on the 25th of this month, competing against the HD6950 at the price of the GTX 460.

The ref 470 cards run very hot. Well known and why they were never popular. At their current price I can see why more people are now interested in them.

Consider what warranty you will get with the card. If you want to upgrade in a year, for example, some warranties can be transfered and some cannot. See my sig.

Your PSU should be fine.

I just recently got the exact same card.

Mine idles at about 35 C (70% fan speed - which is barely audible over my case fans) with ambient temps at 22C. It's also OCed to 825/1650/1800. In games, 74C to 80C on average, dempending on the game and length of time playing obviously.

I don't know about that case but mine isn't even longer than my mobo, so you should be fine.

And that power supply should be fine.
