Retrieving files from another old hard-drive

Thread Starter
Hi, I'm trying to retreiving important files from my old hard drive (OS=xp pro) on my new computer which also runs xp pro... I had two partition on my old one where I stored all my important files on one and all the os/programs on all the other and I don't know how to retreive those files... I was thinking since there's already an OS on my old hard drive, would that conflict with my new hard drive since it also has the same OS... any clues?

Why not run a Linux liveCD and just copy the files from that partition onto a USB drive? Simple.

Your old drive would only conflict in the sense that your BIOS may try to boot it. As long as you have your new drive set to boot first you should have no issue.

Just as mbudden said, use a Linux liveCD

Here's a link for the Ubuntu one http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download

This/\\

After booting up just take ownership of the files from the old drive.
