He stated on his Gigabyte board he could turn off power saving features and disable turbo mode causing the option of turbo settings to gray out.

Yes I've read the guide as well, that's why I'm sure sure if it's something with Asus, the P8p67 or bios... I haven't checked for most recent yet. I'm hoping to have some this afternoon for that, and I'm really really hoping I can hit 4800Mhz.. 4560, seems fine and stable. Either one bclock or one multi higher and it's a fail as soon as windows loads. I haven't pushed the vcore over 1.350 yet trying it though. Just taking it slow, trying to learn what it likes, etc...

Yes, you CAN turn off the turbo and power saving features, BUT the multiplier ONLY applies to the turbo. You will be running at a constant stock speed with turbo off.

So you who doesn't have one, is saying that the person who has one and wrote a detailed overclocking guide is wrong.

Interesting.

The only way you can overclock SB is through the turbo. Period.

DescriptionP8P67 1053 Beta BIOS

1. Enable support of "Internal PLL Overvoltage" item to allow better CPU TURBO RATIO overclock capability with D2 Stepping processors.

And as well, you, a person who doesn't have one, is misinterpreting preliminary data is getting butt hurt.

Interesting......

I'm not butt hurt I already stated I didn't really know.

Set the frequency you want for a high but modest overclock (not your final), something like 4.0- 4.5 GHz, set ratio or turbo frequencies (40x-45x), if you only have the option for turbo frequencies make sure they are all the same. If you are on a Gigabyte board, and just want to use one Ratio setting, you need to enable Ratio Change in OS option; this will gray out the Turbo Settings.
Explain it to me in small words so I can understand what is being said.

That's what I thought. I don't mind my cpu lowering it's multiplier at idle anyways. Lower idle temps means longer life.

wait a damn minute.... Balla it's you. SO sorry mate, your good by me, I just didn't realize who i was arguing with. On a side note, just sold the 965, mobo, and ram I had.

Anywho, it "appears" that from all the write ups, except for the latest one by sin, says that the ratio only applies to the turbo feature for overclocking. Now, Sin has also stated in a post yesterday at some point exactly what you quoted. I haven't had the time to research it, as well as there is nothing to research yet as NDA is still in affect, and the only things we have to go off of are

1. the reviews from all the review sites, which all state turbo only ocing.. and

2. Sin's comment that is quoted.

A definite answer? probably not until Monday night some time and we'll all know one way or the other. In any event, it def. posses a good reason NOT to be the first in line to buy Sandy Bridge. Well, I take that back, buy the chip, but wait on which motherboard to buy until this is fact and not speculation.

So this means that we can't have our OC clocks running all the time?

Only when the CPU is under load? Can't I have a constant clock of say, 4.6ghz, either idle of load?

If so, that's a bummer... but I'll have to deal with it.

lol how much did you get?

I guess you could argue that you're still using the turbo frequency on the Gigabyte board - however instead of it being turbo its locked in and doesn't down clock.

That's the way I'm reading it anyways.

I'll find out soon enough since I happened to buy a Gigabyte mobo

Edit: Also did you ever get it up to 4.3?
