[CBSNews] White House eyeing internet ID for Americans. - Page 2

There are numerous bills proposed everyday to end net neutrality, remove anonymity, and force regulate the internet. No tin foil hat required just some common sense and little knowledge about government. It began heavily just this year with the fcc reclassifying the internet as a telecommunications service instead of an information service.

Government interference in the private sector always ends the same way. Badly.

If you don't think creating these secure ID's are a problem, then what happens when these ID's are required to visit some sites? Then all sites? Will it stop there? Will you need a secure ID to access your ISP? Will you need a secure ID to buy something online? Let the private sector handle net security and keep the government out of it.

Your interpretation of the article isn't the only one. All others who see this as government intrusion are not tin foil hat wearing paranoids, just concerned internet users.
HAHA, seriously? Did the creation of a drivers license have these effects? Do you need to show your SSN at the door of your local store to gain entrance. You can't just assume everything is going to go to hell based on your 'selective' history.

EDIT: And just for some food for thought, think about paypal. Sellers don't have to ship something to you if its not your 'Verified Address'. And if the whole point of this is so that your information is verified over a group of websites, why is so wrong if the idea came from the goverment... or did everyone forget to read the fact that they want the private sector to take care of it...

Yes there are stores and business that require ID cards to enter.
There have been numerous national ID cards proposed.
There have been state to state ID checkpoints proposed.
Ever heard of the patriot act?
Where have you been under a rock?

Fail.

And if history has shown us anything or for that matter if you learned anything in your history class. The government can and will reduce your liberty if given the chance to do so.
This is the last post Im going to respond to you seeing as you clearly are not interested in having an actual discussion and rather just want to spread your opinion without regard for information.

I dont know what stores you frequent, but if it does require some form of ID to get in, you are more then welcome to not visit it. Its the stores choice, and by forcing you to do something they risk loosing customers. Its not like every store meets up in a huge meeting and decides they are going to require ID, instead stores are going to try and capitalize on other stores mistakes.

Your next two statements, didnt realize propositions where instantly law. Tons of things have been proposed, and tons have then been REJECTED.

I also never realized the patriot distributed some new form of ID that was required to be carried at all times... mine must have gotten lost in the mail...

Really, because i'm about 99% sure that's what you did. Considering I told you that your opinion on the subject wasn't the only one and criticizing others for their opinions is not a way to have a civil discussion.

That's the beauty of capitalism in a free country. This is exactly which you are professing against. When government enters the realm of private industry in order to regulate or provide "security" this can not happen.

Acts and laws can be passed or rejected based on just a vote, a single solitary vote. The fact isn't whether or not the proposed legislation passed it's the mindset in government that they have the ability to do these things without Constitutional authority.

I'm not even going to justify this with a response because you clearly have never read the legislation. If you are going to continue the argument at least give me counter points instead of banter and personal attacks.

Ironically "common sense" is no longer common.

A bit off topic: OCN is hilarious. Other than a select few, no one has even read the article.

What this article is saying is that basically it's a "Connect with Facebook" style system to have a universal log in, which means you only need to remember one password. Just don't make it "Password1234" or "Thisismypassowrd" and you won't have any issues.

Facebook already has this down pat on many sites. Hell I use connect with Twitter on some other forums that way I don't need to make an account.

This is done for simplicity, not some gigantic government takeover of the interwebs.

It will be optional, just as having a Facebook account is optional, and even using the Facebook "Connect" feature is optional.

Read people, read.

On topic: Not a bad idea really, though if Facebook implementation keeps growing as is, this system that is being proposed is kinda useless....

Total side note: OMG this felt great to type on my BlackWidow Ultimate.. mechanical keyboards <3
