Building new system summer 2011

Thread Starter
Hi all,

I am going to build another rig this summer (after bonus season ) - going with Intel as the base. Just like summer 09, budget will be around ~2k. What can I expect to go with then? Latest Sandy, etc? Any help is appreciated so I can start planning now - mainly cpu/mobo chipset/and water cooling suggestions at this time would be much appreciated - GPU I'll decide on as the time approaches. Parts will likely be ordered mid-May. Thanks.

For 2k I'd go w the i7 setup. Prices should drop by then and no matter what neone says about sandy bridge being so much better if ur not goin w the top pick for everything an i7 system should be better or comparable. Gigabyte makes some nice x58 boards that arent so expensive and should b a lil cheaper by then. But for water cooling setups ur gonna have to think of what ur case can handle.

He already owns an i7 x58 why spend 2k on the same thing???

For 2k id buy a top end 1155 mobo, and i7 2600k sandy cpu, It would be a nice step up in performance over your current rig, perhaps spend the rest on a sli 580's or cf 6970's etc.

with 2k there's plenty of choice

That's half a year away, new and better things will be out by then.

I'm doing the same, hoping to go LGA 2011 by end of summer or Bulldozer, depending on performance.

ivy enthusiast socket will be 1356 not 2011

Its all good getting the parts you want ready to order in may but by that time things would have changed and your parts list will be completely diffrent.

two months ago i was dead set on a i7 950 rig with a gtx 480

now im going sandybridge 1155 with a gtx 580, so much has changed in such a short space of time
