Multiplier problem Q9550 on P7N

Thread Starter
I just bought a MS-7510 motherboard on ebay. (After research, it's an Acer board that was in Aspire G7700 desktop)

This board have the same feature as the MSI P7N Diamond (780i, 4x PCI-E 16x...)

My problem is in the bios, My cpu multiplier don't raise above 8... But the default multiplier for a Q9550 is 8.5

I can put the multiplier to 6, 7, 7.5 and 8 only.

EIST and Spread Spectrum is turned off...

Could someone help me to set my multiplier to 8.5.

The only way i can set it to 8.5 is by turning on the EIST.. But when i raise my FSB, if EIST is on, my system freeze... (i adjust the vcore)

The system run super stable with default setting (EIST on, FSB at 1333 (2.8ghz)...) but i would like to oc it a little bit to get at least 3.2ghz.

Config:

MB: MS-7510 (MSI P7N Diamond)
GPU: Zotac GTX 470
GPU2: ASUS GTX 260 TOP (physx only)
CPU: Intel Q9550
RAM: 2x2GB DDR2 OCZ Reaper 1066MHZ (5-5-5-15)
Sound: SoundBlaster X-FI Fatal1ty
PSU: Corsair 750W
HDD: WD Raptor SATA 10000rpm 300GB
Monitor: 27" ASUS VE276Q 1920x1080

p.s: Sorry for my english, i'm french..

if the motherboard came from an oem (acer in this case). most likely alot of the options are turned off or adjusted for the specific computer it used to be inside of.

If I misunderstood you let me know but I dont believe that the multiplier of that chip is unlocked.

After reading on the Aspire G7700, this desktop have the option to come with a Q9550 cpu...

And yes, in the BIOS, i can put my multiplier to 6, 7, 7.5 and 8. It give me the option to change the multiplier value but i need to select the number... i cant enter it manually... and it stop at 8. But when i turn EIST on, the multiplier go to 8.5 by default...

By keeping EIST on (to have 8.5 multiplier) and FSB to 1508MHZ (376.8x8.5) with vcore at 1.125 my system is stable at 3.2ghz... It's the best i can do with this motherboard i think...

With the little cpu cooler that i have, under load after 10 minutes i get 62C...

The motherboard didn't cost me a lot of money (45$) so it's not too bad.. I can do SLI with my Q9550 @ 3.2GHZ... the main reason whyi switch from my Asus P5Q-E

Here my CPUID validation:

First off If I remember correctly nforce boards arent very good. Not to mention you have an acer board.

Would you be open to buying a new board and heatsink? otherwise your stuck where you are

I believe what you are looking for is the "CPU N/2 ratio". this allows for the .5 clock bump.
I am running a similar setup
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1583638
The Nvidia MoBo isnt the best one I have used ,with the 775 chipset, but it gets the job done! It has alot of nice options. Happily to say; i will be jumping ship when the X68 chip comes out.
5GHZ is silly, cant wait to put the $ 2gethr to get a new MoBo and chip!!

You could just have used the SLI-hack for the Asus P5Q-E...

I used it for my Asus P5Q Pro Turbo when I was using 2x GTX 260 in SLI. Worked perfectly. I had an old SLI bridge from a Asus P5N-E SLI.

This would have been a much better option for you than switching to that motherboard.. The P5Q-E is a great motherboard...
