POST'ing with a Sandy Bridge Processor

Thread Starter
If I'm making sure that all my hardware components are installed correctly, I should be able to POST the BIOS without a discrete video card correct? Since all the Sandy Bridge processors come with a GPU on the same die, right?

Just wanted to double-check with this awesome community that can show me how much of a newbie I really am.

I think if you are using the P67 chipset it disables the built in graphics. So you would need a graphics card. That is just my guess though, I don't have my chip yet so I might be wrong.

DayoftheGreek is correct. If you're using the board in your sig, you need a dedicated video card. The IGP is disabled and the video ports are removed entirely from P67. You need a H67 board in order to use the IGP.

Thank you.

Enjoy that setup. I also bought the same board. Can't wait until next week when I will get everything up and working.

Wait, so whats the purpose of the IGP? I figured that it would be used in gaming with like physics calculations or something.

The purpose of the IGP is so that mainstream systems with no dedicated video card can still play some games. It only applied to the H67 platform. With P67 boards, the IGP does absolutely nothing.

Yeah man, hopefully you and I can pull some D2 stepping chips and hit 5+ GHz

Picking mine up and the video card from MicroCenter tomorrow morning, can't freakin wait!

Same.

What type of cooling are you going to use?

1) Would I be OK starting up with no video card and an H67 board, and then a few months later buying a good video card and keep my H67 board ?

2) Would I be losing functions or performance, vs. just getting a P67 and video card from the start?

3) Would the IGP of the 2500K, on an H67, function in tandem with the future video card ? (i.e. SLI or such) (assuming I choose my video card wisely...)

Thanks!
