Snowfall Collection, Rebel T2i

Thread Starter
The northeast got some snowfall last night, so I decided to bring my camera out to play Post processing was performed in Lightroom; the only modifications made were exposure, temperature and tint (last two are essentially white balance). Next time I go out, I'm definitely going to pick up an 18% grey card to do spot-on white balance corrections to minimize having to do corrections in PP.

Shots were primarily performed in aperture priority. I used my 18-55mm IS kit lens exclusively, since I don't own any other lenses at this point I didn't use a tripod (still need to order one, pending funds). For the dog shots, I switched to shutter priority at 1/1000 sec. The album title is "Snowfall". Enjoy!

Are you using a UV filter? All the photos seem rather hazy...

Yeah. Vivitar 58mm UV filter, it came in a set of 3 (CPL, UV, CFL) and it was inexpensive. I should probably grab a better one when money comes along.

I really like the photo of the brown dog looking up at the camera.

I wonder if it would look good in black and white...

Yea, I think the UV filter may be hurting your image quality.

Some other things I've noticed were that some of your pictures don't seem to have a subject (like the third and fourth pictures with the tree) and the contrast could probably be bumped up a bit in a few.

Overall though, pretty good shots

Don't use a UV filter.

I don't like how you make really weird framing adjustments to achieve bokeh.

I'm assuming you didn't shoot in raw, they look unedited. You should next time if you didn't.

Would you care to explain your first comment more explicitly?

I didn't shoot in raw. I'll do it next time.

It's just seems like you're trying to get as much background bokeh in all the up close shots as possible, forgetting about properly framing the subject.

Have you ever edited RAW photos? Its sooo awesome, and so easy.

As for the OP, There's no need for a 18% gray card if you shoot in RAW, Throw the white balance on auto. Also, you don't even have to get a perfect exposure, if it's off, it's very easy to tweak with RAW.
