Im stuck on these choices. 6970,570 and 580 hmmm what to pick. Like I said I cant crossfire or sli and just want the most fluent gameplay without doing overkill.

I would go with the 6950 or the 570 personally.

Both cards carry the relative performance of their bigger-siblings, and both cards can be overclocked to similar levels - the 6950 has been shown to perform almost hand in hand with the 6970 when overclocked with real-world differences being minimal at best, and that's not considering that most are unlocking to 6970's anyways.

The 570 has all the benefits of the 580 with its better cooling solution and performance efficiency gains, carrying more than the power of the gtx480 for a cheaper price.

Both of these cards will be HUGE upgrades for you from a 5830 and frankly their more expensive counter-parts (5970/580) will not be worth the extra price premium in actual gameplay terms.

By the time the difference between the 6950/570 and 6970/580 becomes pronounced in actual gameplay you will be ready to upgrade again anyways.

Personally I would take the money saved purchasing a 6950/570 over the 6970/580 and use it towards ordering a new case at the same time. You will want to consider that your Antec 300 may be a little small for such high end cards (I know mine is feeling that way) not to mention its lack of cable-management features have me a wits end, and you should also consider the ability of a Raidmax PSU to run these cards. I'm no PSU expert, but it's something you should look into ...

+1. Im also someone who has owned and had a good experience with both. I dont consider myself a Fanboy as I'd be happy with either. Im just currently using AMD/ATI.

Cant really complain about drivers for either. Both companies update regularly, both companies put fixes out when needed.

Most issues I have had were of my own making (Overclock) or related to the bios or card itself.

Fried my 9800GTX (dont overclock/Overvolt unless you are sober), Original Vapor-x 4890 had factory fault and needed to be replaced (random crashes and display failures), Current 5870 needed a bios update to set voltages, power saving and fan settings correctly etc.

None of those are driver issues but sometimes can look like them so drivers get blamed.

Anybody out there completely gutted with their current GPUs because their "drivers suck". Post them to me, Id be happy to relieve you of the burden of having bad drivers.

6950 can unlock to a 6970 with bios flash. I don't know about the overclocking headroom though.

What is your budget? 580 is the fastest single solution but the most expensive.
Both good performance, similar same price. Split the difference by looking at other stuff, Warranty, aftersales support, Quietness, Heat etc. (the stuff that will matter over time)

6950 flash to 6970 and gtx280 for physx (since they are going for $100)
