Radeon 5850 Crossfire Inquiry

Thread Starter
Thinking of getting this great deal on another Radeon 5850 card: http://www.logicbuy.com/deals/xfx-hd...ard/25436.aspx

I would be running this in Crossfire mode as I have another 5850 card. My question is whether or not I would be safe running two cards with my current setup (shown below). My PSU is 730w and I've read that you need at least a 650w+ PSU to run Crossfire with two of these. Just dont want to blow my system.

Thoughts?

You will be fine, I have seen people run two 5970's on a 750 watt psu without any problem.

Sounds good. Now, currently I cannot think of any reason I would need two cards, but down the line I believe it would be beneficial for games such as Crysis 2 and Rage. Any other reasons why taking the plunge on this deal would be beneficial at the moment?

You WON'T be fine. Why? Because Raidmax has nothing but awful PSU's. All you need is a good 650w(you're looking at 500w max load). Any decent 650w would be better than that Raidmax junk.

Just get a reliable 650w. Antec TruePower New 650w and Corsair TX650 are both $90 and would do great.

If you actually do get one of them, the Antec is better and has better value.

I knew Raidmax was a cheap company going in, but a friend of mine has the same unit and both of us have had good results with them thus far. The reviews are definitely variable on their company. My budget at the time caused me to go with them. If it does go out I will keep your suggestions in mind, thanks.

I'm running 2 5850's in crossfire, loving it.

Had one for close to a year, and then decided to upgrade with another one recently at less than $200, great prices to be had.

Reasons to love 5850, in crossfire:

1.) They use so little power for the performance they push out.
2.) Less power = less heat, they run cool as ice.
3.) RadeonPro is the best program ever (different drivers for different games)
4.) DX 11, upgrade for what? already getting DX11 on BF:BC2, 80 fps + everything on highest setting.

I loves them, keeping them till the next refresh of GPU's.
Shhh!
