PSU for high end build - Page 2

Yeah definitely don't buy that seagate, I can guarantee you you'll be happier with a Samsung F3. And running 5ghz 24/7, eventhough you get great temps, might not be very good for the chip at all.. But still, 4.5ghz+ on that i7 2600k ( or even i5 2500k since HT isn't really used all that much in games ) will be awesome.

The best ~550W available is the SeaSonic X560, should cost in the $100-$130 range.

The best ~750W available is the SeaSonic X750, X760, or Corsair AX750 (they're all basically the same thing). The X750 is currently $130 on Newegg, so is the best deal at the moment, but won't last.

The best ~850W available is a bit murkier since the SeaSonic X, SeaSonic M12D, and CWT DSG platforms are all pretty close in performance there. The units based on those platforms are the SeaSonic X850, Corsair AX850; SeaSonic M12D 850W, XFX BE 850W; and Corsair HX850 respectively.
he's pretty much the best on psu's around here from what i've seen, and those seasonics are just supposed to be phenomenal. i believe corsair's HX series were just rebranded seasonics when they first started, someone correct me if im wrong here. but all very nice units.

I've personally been pretty happy with my antec 750W, powered my rig when I had crossfire 5850's and my cpu @ 3.6 no problem. I think it was ~$80 at frys when i got it but that may have been on sale...

Corsair's HX line is a jumble.

HX450 - SeaSonic S12II (discontinued)
HX520 - SeaSonic S12 (discontinued)
HX620 - SeaSonic S12 (discontinued)
HX650 - SeaSonic S12E
HX750 - CWT DSG
HX850 - CWT DSG
HX1000 - CWT PUC

The S12II, S12, S12E, and PUC platforms are all midrange for their respective wattage ranges. But the CWT DSG platform is very high end, in the 750-850W range it reigned supreme alongside the SeaSonic M12D platform, until the SeaSonic X platform came along, and even then it's still very competitive at 850W, with lower efficiency but tighter voltage regulation.

Basically, HX series are all modular, mid-range PSUs, except for the HX750 and HX850 which are top tier. All the rest including the HX1000 are just mid-range.

Interesting and confusing at the same time haha.
Maybe by waiting for the 2600k release date I will accumulate enough money to get a better liquid cooling system for it, so that the chip will handle the speeds just fine.

Oh wells, I guess the thread can be consider to be not necessary anymore. Thanks for the PSU suggestions though! I will definitely remember that!

I love it every time you say that! At least I made one good choice.
