I can't decide which mobo, EVGA X58 SLI3 or EVGA X58 FTW3. I know the FTW3 is better, but I'm worried about tall heatsinks hitting the northbridge. I'm not sure if that's an issue or not.

Links to the 2 mobos:

+rep for anyone that helps. I might upgrade to something highend like Megahalems/NH-D14/V8, which is why I'm concerned.

Ok I would go for the cheaper of the boards, because they are both great boards, but thats just me personally.

As for your concern about something like the NH-D14 fitting on the FTW:

It will fit but in the vertical position only

Edit: Voted for the FTW3, cause in reality it's the better board.

Just get the H50, or H60 (which is soon arriving), along with the FTW.

The FTW is really just more of a chance though on whether or not you will actually get a better overclock.

I'm inclined to say get the SLI3 because it looks like it has lower profile heatsinks but I do not like the fact that the south bridge heatsink is so damn small.

But the FTW3's NB heatsink looks like it tapers away from the socket so it might still work.

Maybe drop a little bit more and get the Rampage III Formula?

the question is just if the 40 bucks worthy the investment.

if you really want these 2 extra phases then get the ftw. otherwise, sli3.

Yeah. He's got a point. I have a 200$ Asus motherboard that's handling 4ghz like a champ. Was easy enough to overclock. Only thing that some people don't like is the color scheme. Personally with all the stuff in my case you don't see it anyway. Lol.

Go for whatever will do what you need.
