Root it. Doesn't matter if it works as a phone or not but you've got yourself a nice multimedia device there. Wait for 2.3 Gingerbread on the Droid and we've got a winner.

Root it and make it your new phone, the Droid is up with the nexus 1 for community support. Id be very suprised if it didn't have gingerbread ported to it already (the Rom I have on my desire is loaded up with gingerbread goodness).

Droid blows Nexus One out of the water as far as custom ROMs go.

We don't have any completed Gingerbread roms yet. But we're getting there. It's a matter of getting accelerometer, GPS, little crap like that fixe.d

Only been apart of the desire community so I sort of don't have any idea about others, I just assumed that the n1 community would've been bigger but I must be wrong.

You don't have a complete gingerbread Rom? I would've thought the Droid would've had it first... the only problem I have with gingerbread on my desire is that the WiFi drains the crap out of the battery

I know most HTC devices got it fast because punk_kaos (developer of KaosFroyo and now KaosGingerbread) works practically 24/7 for the Droid Eris. That's the most complete Gingerbread ROM by far. So most HTC devices can take most of the work from kaos. Plus IIRC the Nexus S is very similar to many HTC devices. Blackdroid has released UD3.0 beta for Droid, which is Gingerbread.

Sell one. Then get the other flashed to Metro PCS or Cricket both of these carriers use CDMA and are month to month no contracts.Just go to the nearest cricket or metro pcs store and let them flash the firmware .Now you have a working phone and then ROOT it like ever one else is telling you.

My "super secret" CM 7.0 test build works surprisingly fine, but I'm sure there is plenty of stuff to fix.

I think the N1 is probably on par with the D1, but the NS is the new up and comer.

The N1 community is pretty much why the D1 has what it has. Most of it used to be developed for them first and then tailored for the D1.
