That's worse than what he has, Sunbeam's high end are mediocre ATNG units overrated by 20%, and their low-end are, I believe, SunPro or a similar brand, which are trash

Now, a quality 400W will run a GTX460 fine. Nvidia's recommendation is inflated to account for all the crappy PSUs out there that are greatly overrated (like, for instance, that Sunbeam, which still likely wouldn't cut it because it's a massive pile of feces). I don't know the quality of your PSU; but a PSU that will run a GTX460 reliably and safely starts at around $50 minimum (assuming no ridiculous sales).

well thats the thing. i dont know if xclio goodpower 500 is a good/decent/fair/poor psu lol. i know sparkle calibre series x460g says 450w and 22a min. its close to the gigabyte super overclock series gtx 460 i was going to get. this is what im using at the moment: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...io%20goodpower

ps: i dont mind paying $50 if its good

I don't think it's a terrible PSU; but it isn't a brand I've studied much, so I'm not positive. I was thinking CWT for a bit, but it doesn't look like one. I don't see a combined +12V rating, which is worrying. But it claims continuous output, and it has active PFC so it likely a double forward topology.

I dunno.

EDIT: UL # checks out as CWT, I guess I was right. I'm not sure what platform that is though, DSA maybe?

ok. i just went to gigabytes website and ive got conflicting info for power requirements. where it lists all the gtx 460s you can see it says min 500w but i know ive read info saying 550 argh lol.

edit: if the card does need 500 is there a reasonable chance my psu can run it? dont plan on ocing it till after i eventually get a new mobo

You don't really need to worry about the "requirements" as posted by Gigabyte.
Your system as seen in your sig + a GTX 460 wouldn't draw more than 300W from the PSU at peak draw (assuming you're running Prime95 and Furmark).
