Advice on Overclocking E5620 on SR-2

Hey everyone,

I'd like to OC this but am still a little unsure of my settings (OC noob) and just want to make sure I'm doing it right. System is listed in sig.

Sorry to bother making a new thread about this but while I'm sitting here waiting for my 2nd 580 to come back, I was encouraged by a few folders to OC the system (which I wanted to do anyway at some point). I mean it's pretty bad of me to be on OVERCLOCK.NET and well, not be OC'd right?

Now I know Tom's has that good guide on OC'ing the 5620, but I'm still new to doing it and that Tom's article doesn't have any rationale as to "oh this setting affects that" - they simply say they coaxed their 5620s to 4ghz. Barring my guessing outright, am I correct in understanding:

1. That the PCIe frequency of ~100mhz should be left alone, period.
2. That I can leave Turbo Mode either enabled or disabled and it won't necessarily matter.
3. That as long as I keep the RAM within 1.65v and within my speed rating (1600 mhz), I'm fine.
4. That as long as I keep the CPUs within 1.4v for their cores, I'm fine.
5. That the QPI / BCLK (aside from multi and small voltage adjustments later on) are really the only things I need to mess with to OC. I'd like to just leave the multi as default for now (18x is highest on these CPUs).
6. That as long as I keep the Tcase (heatspreader) temperature of the processor below ~70C, I'm fine according to Intel's E5620 whitepapers.

For some reason my IOH PLL voltage seems quite high (1.69 to 1.74 under load), is this normal? I believe voltages are set to auto in the BIOS and I captured what EVGA's Eleet tool has for voltages (default settings) in the last image below.

@ 2,596 2,650 mhz now!

Basically, am I still safe? I really want to phase this in slowly and not suddenly go from 2.x up to say, 4ghz and burn out something.

If I go up by 100mhz increments at 30 minutes at a time while folding on CPU (core stopped, speed incremented, then core restarted - not while live folding I mean), would that be ok or should I run IBT / Prime95 at every few hundred mhz boost or for every 10 mhz on the BCLK? Really new to this stuff I'm afraid.

Next, is there a "safe" speed at what my QPI link should be at? Right now it's right around 3 Ghz.

Finally, RAM is at 2:8. Should I change that...(EDIT, nevermind. Found an old PM by MushkinSean explaining RAM timings). 2:8 is fine for me for now it seems. Anyway, these sticks are showing up with different JEDEC / XMP profiles. Are they all basically correct for me to use?

Is EVGA Eleet fine to use within Windows or should I really be changing things from the BIOS still (I know, old school days)...

Basically I'm becoming more confident in knowing what settings affect others but at the same time it's still my first time really doing this. Thanks for any advice guys.

Finally, I think HWMonitor (ver 1.15) is bugged, as it's reported my +12v as over 17v since day one of monitoring with it, yet EVGA's tool right next to it shows it with normal fluctuations.

Thanks very much Dvast. I think for now it's so far, so good

Should've put Eleet on general info instead of yet another temp monitor though I think. Both standard and max tests passed @ 2,660 mhz (140 x19).

Now I just have to get some thought as to if 10 Standard IBT Tests and 1 Maximum Test is enough for general stability.
