AMD Phenom 970 + Asus Motherboard help :)

Thread Starter
Hey some of you may remember my asking for help in this topic

http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/908952-amd-phenom-ii-x4-970-black.html

Ive since got that motherboard i mentioned whish was

So i got it and ive hit more problems, but first heres my specs

ASUS SKT-AM3 M4A77T S/L RETAIL
AMD Black Edition - AMD Phenom II X4 3.5 GHz Processor
Arctic Cooler heatsink
Arctic Power 700W PSU - With PCI-E, 4x SATA, 20+4, ATX12V, 8pin +12V Connectors
Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1600MHz HyperX Memory Kit 1.65V
Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 1TB Hard Drive SATAII 7200rpm 32MB Cache x
Tt eSports Black Laser Wired Gaming Mouse
Saitek Cyborg v.7 Gaming Keyboard

Basically what happens is everytime i try and boot, it says "overclocking failure F1 to default" etc, evreytime i adjust the RAM to go from 1666mhz down to 1333 (as i read that other people solved their problems doing this) it works once, until turn the system off, then everything i changed in BIOS has been reset, im dealing with constant crashes and hangups, and i really have no clue what im doing, i feel like my first build has been one bad move after another.

So as well as any help, can any of you guys help me find a non Asus motherboard which will run my 970 and my ddr3 ram, and be on a strict budget, ive already spend over £500 in 3 days

thanks for your time

Steven

Will you use the IGP? If you won't ever uset it and you can afford it, i think you would be better off buying one of these :http://www.ebuyer.com/product/218937

Having a good mobo is vital to have a good system smile.gif

Is your memory set to specs and in the "blue" slots ?

You would need bios 1202 or newer for the 970.

Its almost definitely the BIOS. Boards usually ship with an outdated BIOS and you often need a slower chip on-hand to boot with so that you can flash to the newest BIOS and then install the new CPU.

I had the same problem with my Phenom II 965 when I bought an ASUS board for it, right after the chip came out. I used an Athlon X2 5200 to install the BIOS update. Then I turned off the machine, cleared the CMOS, and installed the new chip and it worked fine.

My board sucks for overclocking CPU's though.

Memory is in the blue slot, Did a bios update, says the most recent update has been installed, and yep battery is in.

I think it must be a defective motherboard, as no matter what i do it just wont save a thing, and if i restart it sits there blinking at me with this dammed "MEM OK red light".
