But if you need to have your PC on just to watch the movies it'd simply be better to just run them from the PC to begin with.

you know the original xbox can play ps1 games right. But then again, that shouldve been an easy port of PCSX since the hardware was almost the same as a PC.
Having all these console emulators on a single console is a convience that many people like

Yeah, I know, but it's further than I could ever get on my 360 with MKV's

I usually just watch mkv's by hooking up HDMI from my netbook to my theater, but it's nice sometimes to chill with some anime streaming on my netbook to ps3 when I don't feel like getting up and doing anything.

It's easy as, turn netbook on, start up ps3ms, and browse the media on ps3 and play. Usually no buffering needed either, until you get to high bitrate 1080p.

I think you're missing the point... sure, I can stream to a PS3... but now I won't have to. It's safe to assume the PS3 will soon have NATIVE mkv support.

It's basically going to cut out the middle man, and I can't wait.

PC in my room.
Home theatre in my basement.
Sometimes that's the case.

It's possible, and I can't see why not since because it's just a container, but I wouldnt put my money on it until we know what exactly can be changed.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm totally on the same boat. Can't wait till MKV's are fully supported!

you know what this is going to be a really good year for homebrew and consumers fighting back. But remember this is only the beginning I am sure we will get MKV support, etc. Like all good things have patience or be part of the movement.

Geohot's firmware is different then the other because he patched the firmware to disable signed checks pkg to install. It is also brick proof since you can flash back to 3.55 within recovery mode without a issue and it does a crc check on the system on important files before flashing...
