eMachine. Windows disc boots/starts/loads files, then freezes at animation screen.

Can I pick your brain?

I'm working on an eMachine (yes, I know, JUNK) for a lady at work. When you turn it on, all you get is a blinking cursor after the initial splash screen. I figured that the OS must be corrupt, so I tried to just do a fresh Windows install on it. Well.... I can boot off the Windows disc, it gets through the loading files part, then it goes to the "Windows is starting" animation screen part, then it just freezes and does nothing. Tried several times and it still freezes in the same spot.

Things I have tried:

Took out 1 stick of ram at a time and tried again. Then repeated with other stick installed. Same result.

Ran memtest off a bootable CD. Booted and ran just fine. Passed 100%.

Tried XP, Vista and Windows 7 discs which are know to be 100% good. All do the exact same thing.

Uplugged the HDD (It should still load and then when you get to the part where it asks you which HDD you want to install Windows on, that will just be blank and tell you that there is no where to install it.....right?)

Any ideas for me? Bad motherboard/cpu maybe? (Motherboard looks VERY cheap and southbridge heatsink feels scorchingly hot!!!)

How long did you wait at the "frozen" screen? I've had installs like that where it takes around 10 minutes just to get to the point to where it lets me select language/keyboard options.

You said it loads the files, then gets to the very first Windows splash screen and nothing happens?

For some odd reason whenever I reinstall Windows on my sig rig, when it gets to the very first Windows splash screen BEFORE you actually begin installing it.. It takes at least 5-10 minutes to load.

It's honestly the weirdest thing ever. Try letting it sit for at least 10 minutes, see if it loads.

Long enough to leave the house, go to Mcdonald's drive thru and come back home and eat a #13 meal.

Are you implying you've let it sit that long, or you're going to do that?

Haha.

If you have, leave it on overnight, see what happens!

Yeah, I actually let it sit at the 'stuck' animation screen for that long. 1/2 hour ish. The W7 animation actually just freezes right up. The Vista animation (The green loading bar thing) just stops. The XP disc, just goes to a blank screen after 'loading files'.

Sounds like the boot image is corrupt, to me at least.

Found out about this "freezing" issue after wasting an hour trying various things and only to find out that it gets past the screen when I decided to go make myself some food and came back to the install screen.

Exactly. That's why I'm just trying to do a fresh install, but it won't cooperate.

UPDATE:

Got up early this morning. Hooked the eMachine back up. Popped the disc back in. Went shopping. Came home and it was finally loaded. So, not sure how long it actually took to load, but it eventually did. Thanks for the help everyone.
