Can somebody help find me a < 14" laptop under $1500...

...that has a decent Intel CPU and decent nVidia graphics (preferably 400M series)? I dont want any of those 15"+ laptops simply because I 'd like to comfortably be able to use the laptop in bed. Laptops like the XPS 14 are still too big for me - if it were that big, it'd have to be really light/thin to make up for it .

I'm asking because my original idea of taking something like the
ASUS 1215PN and popping in a SSD with Win7 64- bit would take a lot of work both in physically putting it in there and also in finding the proper 64- bit drivers for everything - in other words, I don't want an Atom / ION laptop .

I could only think of ASUS N43JF-A1, HP ENVY 14, MacBook Pro 13.3" and Sony VAIO Z Series.

The ASUS N32JF-A1 and the HP ENVY 14 are too big/heavy for me, so those are out...the MacBook Pro 13.3" is nice, but the processor/graphics are kinda old/weak, and not having the option of a Blu-ray drive is a bummer (I'd hate having both the laptop's DVD drive and an external Blu-ray drive)...so I guess the Vaio Z is my best choice, even if it'd be about twice my price-range. I just have to make sure I get good insurance/warranty on it =P

Wait for the Sandy Bridge refresh of the Thinkpad X201 comes out. Currently they are a 12.1" laptop, but comes with a fully fledged 2 core 4 thread 2.66ghz I7 and many hours of battery life; all for ~$1,200.

I actually just found out that Sony will be updating the Vaio Z with USB3.0 and a sheet battery for double the battery life and charging separate of the laptop, I'll definitely wait for that.

Its a good suggestion, but it doesn't have discrete graphics, which rules it out. I've been looking for the exact same thing, and wasn't satisfied with anything that I found, so I ended up with a old, but awesome X301 that was on super sale. By the way, the Microcenter in Cleveland, Ohio, had (as of 2 days ago) a HP Envy 13 for $538, and it has discrete graphics (its not new, but its better than atom+ion).

Unless you're really feeling the burn to get it, wait a little bit for the new laptops to start showing up with Sandy Bridge processors and newer graphics options. You'll see better performance, efficiency, awesome factor, etc.

SB is the only reason I haven't bought a laptop for college yet. I'm waiting it out to see my options.

I just got a lenovo y460 for sub-$1000.

core i5 480
4g ram
switchable graphics with 1gb ati radeon 5650 / intel HD graphics
500 gb harddrive
14"
light as hell at 4.4lbs
AND the battery life is around 4hours !

took me tons of researching to find one with a good cpu/gpu, great battery size and not sacrifice weight and portability.
