Air cooling sucks, need advice on a watercooling setup

Thread Starter
Just like the title reads, i need some watercooling advice.

My current setup should be in my profile thing but this is what i got anyways

1090t ocd 4.1ghz @ 1.4125 volts and 3400mghz NB @ 1.375 volts. 24 hour prime stable and 50 pass IBT stable on high

Noctua NH-D14 cooler, stock fans
crosshair iv formula
8gb gskill cas8 1600mhz 4x2
2 crossfire 6950's bios updated to 6970's
2 crucial c300 128 ssd's, 2 1TB WD Caviar Blacks
corsair ax1200 psu
Noctua NH-D14
all fitted in the coolermaster HAF X, i also added an extra 200mm top fan and replaced the back exhaust fan with scythe UK 3krpm

Where to begin.... I need to keep my room 69F degrees or cooler inorder not to go above 60c running prime or even encoding a video for that matter. I originally though the NH-D14 would be enough as i see so many people saying how they run their 1090t's at 4.1 - 4.2ghz and even 4.3, but i have ultimatly come to the conclusion that 95% or more of everyone who post temps with my same cooler and chip oc'd either has their rooms at 60F degrees or they are reading and posting core temps cause its impossible to to maintain as low a temperature as people are saying.

Further more my dad has the exact setup as me only with no ssd's and one 6850 and stock cooling, and my brother has the identical set up as me only with the MSI 890FXA-GD70. none of us no matter what we do can hit this magical below 55c mark everyone else seems to be so easily hitting with this cooler and chip. As you can see my voltages are way lower then most people with my chip (im lucky there i guess) My brother needs 1.45 in order to be stable at 4.1 and my dad when i put my cooler on his machine needed 1.43 to be 4.1 stable.

Needless to say between 3 machines and 2 different NH-D14's we cant stay bellow 60c with an ambient any hotter then 69F, so i really dont see how people are running 1.55 to the cpu and 1.4+ on the NB and staying bellow 55c on this chip and cooler, i really dont see it possible in any way at all.

Sorry for the rant i just needed to get that out as this has been irritating myself and my brother for the past week.

Currently being winter here i can get my temps in check and drop my ambients down by opening a window and or throwing a fan on, but i have come to the conclusion come spring/summer time there will be no way to run my setup at all, as i am already pushing the temperature threshold as it sits.

this is why i want to invest in a water cooling setup, this is new territory for me so i dont really have the slightest idea on where to begin piecing something like this together, same goes for the rest of my family. Budget wise i have no idea what a decent water cooling setup will be but i would like to stay in the 300$ range of things.

if something cost more or less im still open for ideas i really want to run this chip ice cold and be able to push it more without worrying about temps, i should also note i would like to watercool my GPU's in the future too but not at this moment in time.

Please people i need some help here, any advice would be greatly appreciated, im looking to do this in the next few weeks i just cant take it anymore.

Hmm I really don't see why you'd be getting such high temps. What kind of setup do you have for your fans, negative pressure or positive? Oh BTW Hellsing is flippin' sweet!! I have little girly hands so the whole symbol won't fit on there. Left one was done 4 years after the right one, which has better detail too.

But anyways back on topic, the Noctua DH-14 is a nice cooler but certainly not the best. The Spire Thermax II is a bit better and a bit cheaper too.

I have no idea whats up with the temps either but its on 3 systems so like i said i think its people posting core temps and not cpu temps with this chip.

To be honest i have no idea the difference between what a negative and positive fan setup would be, by basing it off of the terminology im guessing all fans blowing in = positive and all fans blowing out = negative???

My current fan setup is front fan blowing in, side fan blowing in, rear fan blowing out, NH-D14 fans blowing towards the back of the case into the rear exhaust fan, and the top 2 200mm fans blowing out.

Dude im lovin the tats, and on the real, I have my frst appointment made for Feb 19 to start work on my tattoo, its whole anime videogame montage i had drawn up of all my favorite animes and video game characters which is gonna be spaning my whole back and inlayed into the Hellsing sigil, so imagine the sigil with everything inside of it all blended together, i made this appointment last summer so i am hyped to finally get it started.

On topic: yeah you are correct on the negative/positive pressure part. On my 550 there is a 5c difference between core and CPU temps, Core is at 35c and cpu is at 40c. You could always try reseating the heatsink, I don't know if that will help but it's worth a shot.

Off topic: I have a small collection of Nerd tattoo's, Hellsing, Phantasy Star Online, and my Phenom tattoo. That sounds pretty badass Make sure you post that sucker so I can check it out

hahahahaha you just totally made my F'IN night, im playing PSO right now as we speak.

I reset it a bunch of times, using different pastes and all.. i get the same temps no matter what. Same goes for my dads and my brothers. My core temps are way off, by almost 15c actually.

On Topic: Damn 15c is a helluva difference, well watercooling is a big step from air cooling. Pricy too, a decent RASA kit is 130 at least. If I had a decent air cooler to sell you I would but all I have ATM is a Hyper 212+.

Off Topic: You playing Blue Burst? I have an account on there but I haven't played in a while.

Hot damn! 300 dollar budget eh? I'm not a pro when it comes to picking out water cooling but I can send you in the right direction lol. It all depends on what you want to cool, CPU of course but a water block for your GPU's will be 2/3's of your budget. Plus people here in the for sale section sell water cooling stuff all the time. That will save you some cash too. Here's my Facebook if you want to add me.
