Ok, let me go ahead and step in right here.

- J-20 is CONFIRMED a real test vehicle with flight capability.

- In terms of Operational Capability: None thus far.

- PAK-FA (Russia) has more of a chance of making it through S+D to IOC than the J-20. Be that as it may, even the raptor took ~14 years to make it to IOC.

- Mentioned earlier: If Russia sees that China is doing better than their program, they will pull the powerplant support and make china find their own engines.

- Nowhere in this thread does this say it's about politics. I must have missed it if it did, but i'm pretty sure its not.

- This thing is big. F22 or F35 could spot this thing by VFR easily.

- China has a very good track record of mimicking US ideas. The J-20 is no exception. Or should i say, YF-23 look-alike. Google YF-23 and see what you get. Strange, ain't it.

- No clue if there is truth that this is tech that is derived from a F-117 that crashed during ops in Europe that was supposedly bought piece by piece by the Chinese.

My name is not PFC Brad Manning, but i do have access to some stuff that has been also readily available on google, and some stuff that is not. But where both sources agree is that this is a REAL Jet with stealth capabilities. No specs have been published ANYWHERE, and if i find anything that is releasable to the public i'll post it.

Bottom line: J-20 = REAL Chinese Tech. 5th Manned Stealth Fighter being developed (F-117, F-22, F-35, PAK-FA).

He says, using a computer constructed largely in china...

In my opinion, looks bad-assed. I prefer the look of it to the Russian or US versions.

But the US one still has the cooler name.

The West is playing down the operational time frame. America thinks it will take China years before it becomes operational, that is, according to American standards where everything takes forever to complete.

This is China we're taking about, a country that gets things done, unlike the US where everything takes years to complete. Where I live (SF), it took the city 8 years to finally plug the sinkhole on my block. Now the governor of California is deciding to build a bullet train from SF to LA, I just wonder if I'll ever be able to ride it by the time I retire.

...and in that same fashion, Hastily built chinese buildings have been a spectacle on YouTube when the come crashing down, or burn to pieces, etc...i will give them credit on tech advances, but for coming up with something revolutionary in a timeframe to rival that of US R+D is not within China's baleyweight. The reason US R+D on such projects is because everytime you crash one due to a defect, you lose:
-billions of dollars
-skilled techs you may have to fire
-a human life (at the least)
of which i'm convinced china is not concerned. It's beginning to turn into another space race, but hopefully it doesn't take a Challenger or Columbia for some organizations to be persnickitty of their business practices.

All in all, China is trying to flex, and later will be hit by "small setbacks, trivial delays, and a development revisitation".

The "Chinese building" example is a weak argument and a common fallacy. The computer you're using to make senseless comments is Made in China, don't see that crumbling any time soon. rolleyes.gif

What many people don't understand about China is the Chinese can make quality products, if they want to. In China it's all about making money fast, they turn the knob down on quality to maximize profits because that saves time and saving time means you can do more which in turn equals more profit. However, when it comes to something as important as the military you can be sure that everything is of top quality. Would you skimp on quality to save a few bucks if it meant life or death for your family? I thought so.

China is not trying to rival the US, China only needs to be a few levels away from the US in order to deter the US from sticking their nose in their business.

If China could rival the US then we'll all be slaves of modern Dynastic China already. Don't be so gullible, if the US or any one country had the ability to dominate the world by brute force you think you'll still be here spewing nonsense?

Is it just me or does anyone else keep reading "AUSAIRPOWER" from the thread title as "AUSTENPOWERS"?

This thread needs to die now.

Why don't you debate something sensible, like who'd win between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris?

Just like to point out that that have had a fight, and Lee won.

Yet, he doesn't have thousands of jokes made about him, lol.

Just looked it up: Israel is a POTENTIAL buyer of the plane, just as a few other countries are, but to date no one outside the US has this plane.

Actually, Norway purchased a entire JSF fleet. Looks like the F35.
