tbh, depends on the type of economic imperialism, the 'British East India' sort or the sort that benefits both parties. For other peeps, look up the British East India Company for a bit of history.

Bad stereotype tbh. In fact, the Chinese 'peasant', who often are farmers, actually have more disposable income now more than ever due to rising global food prices.

The British, the Spanish, the Dutch in past history....

Compare that to say, the British Empire or Germany.
Flawed comparison as China was not a unified state until the Qin dynasty. Also forgot about a little thing called Tibet.

I find the bolded quote quite interesting as China is not transparent about their military numbers and capabilities. Chinese culture tend not to be as arrogant and brash as their Western counterparts.

I would not underestimate a country with a 5000 year history that easily. If it's any country that understands war on this planet, it's China.

Don't forget the Korean War, which was more like China vs. USA, the Chinese had inferior land, sea and air and they still managed to bring the war to a draw is quite impressive. The Korean War has already proven it's not about advanced technology when it comes to all out war.

Also, I still do not see why China having stealth fighter planes is a problem. If the US has them, and Russia and Israel will have them soon, why can't China?

It is almost always about having a deterrent for war - the same reason why they all also have nukes.
Thanks for that info, I did not know that they had gone to the ordering phase. One huge problem with the F35, and an ongoing argument is the fact that only one engine has been sourced for the plane, rather than having 2 engines from different manufactures. Putting all your eggs in one basket with an engine is crazy, because a design flaw or defect that was not foreseen could ground the entire fleet.
As far as the Chinese plane, it will be interesting to see how well it does, because China does not have a large or well embedded aircraft manufacturing base like Russia or the USA has, so the learning curve for making critical parts will be steep.

The point of my post was that Chinese citizens would lose less that the US counterparts in the case of war

I was not underestimating them at all, hence I said relatively weak military wise, as in compared to US and Russia. Also as I mentioned previously, no one knows what tricks the other has up their sleeves.

If I'm an F22 pilot, I would not feel comfortable, not a single bit, flying over China or Russia, just because it is "stealth". However, I'd fly over Afghanistan while watching a cartoon in the cockpit.

A plane is only stealth untill proven otherwise in a war, such as the F117.

That won't happen till we reach a global civilization one day (what Dr Kaku like to describe as Type I Civilization), if we can make it that far

Right now, we have the next best thing - purchase a crap load of them, and scare your enemy enough to hopefully never use it.
